Arroyo dodged a fatal bullet with the bases loaded situation. With this lineup, even two runs might mean a loss. Man, is this team lacking in punch. And the answer is Stubbs? I really can't figure this team out.

Hmmm, this is a curious thing from C.Trent's blog and this doesn't sound like a guy who wasn't feeling great today.

*STIRRUPS BENCHED: I asked Joey Votto if the stirrups he sported Tuesday night were a permanent thing, he said no.
“But every game you’ve worn them in your big league career, you’ve hit a homer,” I told him.
“Well, maybe I should wear them all the time,” he said.
“That’s what I’m saying!” I replied.

They also showed him during Reds Live coverage of BP when they were showing Stubbs and Joey seemed totally fine. I wonder what's going on.

Look at the stadium. No one wants to see this emasculated team play. At least appear like you are doing something by playing guys who can actually hit (although I realize that it's a challenge), so it looks like you're doing something, even if you're not.

Yep. This team has me so screwed up that I can't remember who they are--I changed it. I meant Nix and Dickerson--but who cares? With a lineup which sports hitters at .000, .204, .000, .262, .276, .297, .204, .283, and .116, I guess getting one run might be a tremendous task.

I don't think so but we really have no idea until we hear something more from the clubhouse. I don't remember his vision being talked about with his earlier spells and he's seemed perfectly fine on this homestand (aside from being frustrated as a hittern at times :p: ). It was rubbing the sleepy dirt out of the eyes after waking up from his dream where he did not have two (just one) OBP guys of sub 300 in front of him.

LOL  And seeing Stubbs at third in that last inning probably drove him crazy in the dugout or wherever he is because you know (and he probably knows too) that his chances of driving Drew in for a run were much higher than Barker's! :p:

2.18 Earnie for Arroyo over the last 57 2/3 innings.

I would hope there is some phone activity in the GM's office tomorrow.

I don't understand the lack of interest in him, it is not like he is pitching for the "27 Yankees" or the "Big Red Machine". He has been pitching well.

Goodness, no kidding. When I saw Balentien go airborne, I though he'd at least knock it down.

Good attempt, just another tough break that's accentuated by need for pitching and defense to be near perfect to make up for this offense.

You got that right. With a 12-man staff and a five-man bench, you really can't afford to pinch-hit for another position player very often. (Especially when a player had to leave unexpectedly earlier in the game.)

Same phenomenon in 2007, as well.

2007: 99IP of 3.55ERA 1.31 WHIP ball after the break.
2008: 96IP of 3.47ERA 1.19 WHIP ball after the break.

And in 2009 he probably just neared 2.85ERA territory in his nearly 50IP of 2nd half starts.

I thought Walt should have been able to trade him at 2008's deadline based upon his historical precedent of ALWAYS posting stellar 2nd halves, dating back to his Boston days. I simply can't fathom in a pitching starved market why he doesn't have value this year, with only a single year left on his contract.

Well, since Dusty Baker almost exclusively reserves the #2 spot for guys with sub-290OBPs (Gonzo, Janish, Taveras), they probably should be PH'd for in the 9th inning of every tight affair. ;)

Did anyone notice the odd way Barker showed the ball to the home plate ump after the catch on a few of the DP?. Another time he showed it to the 1b ump. I know guys often hold up their glove to show they caught it, but why he turned and showed it to the plate ump was odd. And he took the ball out of his glove and showed the ball in his throwing hand.

Yes, it was 1-0 game where the Reds had two soft, bloop hits.
