I'm a Janish skeptic, but he sure looks like a real SS out there. First one we've had here in years (and that includes "seabass").

Janish is all ready the MVP of this game with that double play. :)

Joey nearly had a good hit in that first inning but he hit it a little too hard. It's nice to see Scott get a hit. I hope the Reds can stay patient with Suppan because he seems a little erratic so far and they could do some damage.

I'm a Janish fan actually. My only hesitancy of him is that I don't think we can afford to carry him with the weak line up we already have. If it was my team though, he's my starter at SS next season.

I am too and if they had a better hitting group around him, he'd be awesome to have in the field. He's actually gotten a few hits in good situations in the last few games so maybe he just needs more work on his hitting. He doesn't seem like a bad hitter to me but I guess he doesn't really have enough at bats to tell for sure.

Nice hit Corky!!

Aww, thanks WMR! Your optimism is a very nice thing to read. As a fellow fan, it serves as a nice pick me up even if I have difficulty feeling very positive about the franchise myself.

My optimism is why I haven't posted much lately. I feel like I'll get attacked or something here if I try to say anything good about the team. Contrary to popular belief, I still think there are some good things about this current team and also some good things to look forward to next year. I know it's been a tough year but it has to be tough on the guys too so they need at least a few fans to help lift their spirits.

Janish has been very impressive tonight overall. He's made a few nice plays, he's hitting pretty well for the most part, and that near grand slam just about made my night! Wow, he got all of that one!

*smacks Joey for swinging at the first pitch and making an out again* :bang:

I feel like it's worse when they're in Milwaukee though. I remember watching some of the games the last time they played at the Brewers and the sound was awful then too. I watched all the games this past weekend in Pittsburgh (yes, I am that fan, LMAO) and the sound wasn't that bad at all. Wow, I was just looking at the Yahoo MLB page and it's starting to read like a medical report too. Some other teams are losing players to the DL right now (none are close to the Reds or Mets numbers yet) so it must be that time of the year that random injuries start popping up everywhere.

It's a good night when you can keep Prince Fielder quiet. :)

With a four run lead and two lefties coming up I think it's fair to bring in the lefty. You said that Rhodes didn't have it, but he only faced two batters. Don't know when the Reds should have figured out he didn't have it.

DM can be used as a Sammy Mejias....maybe Jacob Brumfield type of player. He is not uselss....if not overused or expected to do more than capable of. However.....people here usually have no tolerance for those type of players.

Kinda like what some on this board was hoping Denorfia would turn out to be?

Phillips, Janish and Rolen. Good defensive infield.

It feels different watching the Reds play lately. When a ball is hit to the left side of the infield, my heart doesn't stop anymore.

I nominate Spring~Fields for poster of the game. Not only did he provide great summaries and updates of the action to the bitter end, but he also predicted the win!

Well, I said that earlier and meant it. Coffey is a good egg and a gamer. He apparently got bad advice from some people in our organization because he is obviously a different pitcher in Milwaukee, but...his attitude at criticism from the booth last year turned me off. He was horrible as a Red. Worse than horrible. With horrible comes criticism. Apparently he couldn't handle it. That's a sign of immaturity. Whatever happens to him, I wish him the best when not pitching against the Reds, but when he looked like he did tonight in that final inning, I smiled a little bit. That was the Coffey we saw so often as a Red. And how I want him to pitch against my team.

The Reds have actually found some pretty useful bench players for next year. Gomes, Nix, and Dickerson all have a place on a team.

Now, to get starters in LF, CF, and SS and we might have something.

I hope he gets lit up every time he pitches and ends up out of baseball like Majewski did. Just rubbed me completely the wrong way.

So, as soon as I see Burton being the choice for the 9th, I say "man, I don't know, I've seen a lot of innings he starts blow up." Sure enough.

I go to bed after the Reds get out in the 10th, saying my prayers, but can't get to sleep and finally give in and turn the game back on in the 12th and listened the rest of the way. Even more unbelievable than that 9th inning is that they won it in extras. They always seem to lose those type of games.

This post rubs me the wrong way.

I really don't blame ex-Reds for talking about how obviously bad the coaching and development system is here. Especially when the player goes elsewhere and finds success.

Thanks to the negative nillies who all started coming out of the woodwork last night, I went to bed thinking about how depressing it would be to wake up to a Reds loss today. I am THRILLED that I was wrong and woke up to a win instead! That would have been a horrible loss for a team that really needed some good things to happen. I'm glad they pulled it off in the end and YAY to Joey for being clutch in the 13th inning. Nice for Laynce to give Herrera a little bit of a cushion with his 2nd HR too. The guys picked each other up a lot tonight after some rough moments and this was a definite team win. :jump:

Joey = Clutch (even if he did forget which inning it was that he actually hit the HR according to the story at mlb.com, LOL) :D

I am glad that Todd said something as well.....even if it did rub people the wrong way. I mean....obviously something is wrong here and if it takes a little name calling and feather ruffling to change it.....then have at it.

And forgive me...I loved Todd Coffey getting rocked. I'm sorry. I can't help it.He's not a 3-inning reliever and it took the Reds that long to start hitting off of him. After the 9th inning meltdown, I said out loud that they didn't deserve to win. I was happy with and surprised by the win, but far from impressed by it.

For once, it was the opposing manager who paid the price for using too much of his bullpen too soon.

I saw Coffey get taken deep by Willie Harris of the Nats the other night. Looked like the Coffey of last year; fastball straight in the zone. I like the guy, wish him well when he's not pitching against us, and he's had a good season, but I still think his half-life is going to be short.
Oh, and Heather, sorry you missed the end of the game. Never give up.

That's a very good point. Burton or some of the others might go to another team and pitch very well like Coffey has.

He pitched like hot garbage and decided to point the finger at somebody other than himself. If he wouldn't have sucked, the Reds wouldn't have cut him loose. You're having success somewhere else, cool. Nobody really cares what you have to say now.

And I'm not sure how me wanting NL Central pitchers to give up runs would rub anybody the wrong way to be honest.

I think he had more good appearances here than bad.

and decided to point the finger at somebody other than himself. So my point that the Reds can't coach or develop is wrong and borne out by their tremendous success developing multiple, successful players?

And I'm not sure how me wanting NL Central pitchers to give up runs would rub anybody the wrong way to be honest.I take offense at hoping someone is "out of baseball" just because they call out a former team that has a track record of developmental and coaching failures.

It's lame.
