Fay just posted that there's only about 76 people in the stands for the game right now. Yikes! I hope they get a few more people for game one. I know I'd much rather watch a double header between the Reds and Pirates than be at work on a Monday, LOL :p:

Local disinterest in Reds on the last day of August + poor drawing power of Pirates + economy sucks too much to risk job by blowing off to watch baseball on Monday afternoon + stubborn decision by FO to schedule this as day/night DH in order to get 2 separate gates + a game tonight anyway = probably a historically small gate.

This business decision will probably backfire on the Reds, as they most probably will not cover their overhead for playing a game at GABP, at least for this first game.

Reminds me a game my college team played in Cooper Stadium in Columbus. We had around 100 friends and family in the stands, which held 15,000.

Reminds me of another walk off wild pitch win against the Pirates in 1975 in the final game of the NL playoffs, after Bench had tied the game with a HR.

Foster scored on that one to send the Reds to the World Series. And I think it was '72.

That one was a tad bit more exciting.

Did that happen in '75 too?

I can actually say that this game was one of the more entertaining games I've attended at GABP. Sure, the attendance was LOW, real LOW (maybe a 100 fans total) - but the fans, like me, wanted to be there. There was only one concession stand open at the view level and a couple of ushers - the gift shop on that level was closed. No vendors (or at least I didn't see any - anywhere in the ballpark). I moved around in the view level because my season ticket (last seat, last row, 1st base side) was cold with the wind howling. But before I moved, in at my perch I could hear either Pittsburgh fans or the Pirates themselves giving the rookie pitcher encouragement and banter.
