View Full Version : 9/1/09 - Reds vs. Pirates

I'm pretty sure this lineup proves that Dusty pre-orders his lineup cards with the position set and just pencils the names in accordingly. Kevin Barker is seriously our clean-up hitter, in front of Rolen and Gomes? SERIOUSLY?

Stubbs CF
Janish SS
Phillips 2B
Barker 1B
Rolen 3B
Gomes RF
Balentien LF
Tatum C
Lehr P

And the Buccos:
McCutchen CF
Young 2B
Jones RF
Doumit C
Pearce 1B
Milledge LF
LaRoche 3B
Cedeno SS
Morton P

Barker's a lefty, breaking up the RHs Phillips/Rolen/Gomes.

I know he's a rook, but Barker's put up some VERY nice power numbers this year between here and L'ville.

.417 ba / .500 slg / .917 ops with the Reds (VERY limited playing time)
.285 ba / .551 slg / .927 ops with the Bats (350 ab's)

It's not as bad as you'd think.

He's definitely gotten better from his highwater mark of 26. I think he is at 16 for the year. He's got good speed so you would think he would beat some of those out. Unfortunately most of his ground balls are hit sharply.

I know we are playing AAA players, but earlier in the season we couldn't buy a win against Pittsburgh with Gonzo at short, Encarnacion at third Hairston in left, Traveras in center, and Hernandez behind the plate. They're all gone now and each player at those positions (with the notable exception of the catching position) are playing better than the higher priced players. It's a shame we wasted so much of the season on those guys.

LMAO @ the Baseball Tonight highlights of the Yankee-Orioles game....Posada never knew the count when he was at bat. First he got ball four and stayed at home plate until the umpire told him to go to first, and then he got strike two and thought it was strike three so he started heading back towards the dugout. Dude has been a catcher for how long now?!

1-2 hitters go 2 for 8, but they score 3 runs and contribute 2 RBIs.

Louisville material.

I hope the 2010 MLB roster starts out with more talent than it did in 2009 as well.

From what I've seen of Balentien he shows good plate discipline and power, two skills that are very hard to teach. I know it's too early to say if he can maintain those traits but I like what I've seen so far.

Even if he starts out 2010 in AAA it beats the heck outta having guys like Norris Hopper waiting in the wings. :)
