I'm kind of glad the Braves got a hit that inning...I'm not sure how the pressure of a possible no-no would effect Cueto. And in a one run game, he doesn't need any distractions. I don't think he's ready for that.

I like Homer following Cueto in the rotation. It's a shame we don't play the Braves again tomorrow. After seeing Cueto's 94-95mph heater, Homer comes up and throws faster! :D Kind of cruel actually.

Cueto has thrown great today. Fans his 8th guy. Two out in the sixth. Hopefully Dusty doesn't push Cueto too much.

He has some rested guys in the pen, Burton and Herrera haven't worked too much lately. I'd let them have a chance after this inning.

Cueto with a HBP. Dusty having a chat with Cueto. He'll give him one more batter, I think.

Burton warming.

Cueto with a bad throw on a pick off, runner to second. Cueto didn't throw it hard, just lobbed it wild.

Kc61
09-06-2009, 03:35 PM
Burton is removed after a single. Dusty with a double switch.

Next year's pen will have Rhodes, Herrera, Massett, and Cordero. The other three spots are up for grabs.

Fisher might hang on as a multi inning guy. Owings may stay as a reliever. But with Weathers and Roenicke gone, there will be some new blood.

I expected Burton to pitch against the righty hitters there. Thing is that Massett, Rhodes and Coco cannot work every single day. With the Weathers and Roenicke trades, and with Fisher down, the pen is thinner.

We could see Viola today, possibly.

But I agree that Burton needs to be replaced next year.

I'm glad Drew homered to tie it up, but I fear it's fools gold as far as his offense is concerned and I'm afraid the Reds will pencil him in as a starter next year and not make deals (same goes for SS and LF). The Reds need to deal.

Stubbs will probably split the CF job next year. But I don't see the fool's gold point at all.

This guy is an excellent combo of speed and power. He has shown enough offensively to let him develop and grow into a solid centerfielder. A combo of Dickerson and Stubbs should be effective next year, and not necessarily a straight platoon.

I think the Reds have other needs beyond CF. Particularly with the money owed Taveras, I don't see them throwing more dough at CF.

I'm impressed with Stubbs, less with his results, more with his fine defense and his obvious power. The Cameron analogy seems reasonable.

Grass isn't always greener. And the trade market is very difficult to manipulate to your advantage. If you're waiting for deals to provide anything more than short-term solutions at middle-of-the-diamond spots like SS and CF, you're going to be waiting a long time.

It's one thing to be concerned about relying on a marginal talent, but Stobbs is a former high first round pick with exceptional tools.

If he hits even a bit, he's an asset.

I'm not that suprised. This guy has significant power, always did. I think he tried in the minors to avoid strikeouts and to get on base ,and shortened his swing and went deep into counts.

For whatever reason, perhaps Dusty's influence, he seems less interested in walks at this level. When he first came up he went very deep into the count, not so much now.

The likely result is a lower OBP but more power hitting.

Meanwhile, Gomes fans looking and there are now two down for the Reds in the tenth with Miller up.

If you're going to bring Owings in, why not save your PH Barker and go ahead and use Micah?

Because Moylan is a side winding righty pitcher and Barker is a lefty bat.

Righties have much trouble with pitchers like Moylan. Gomes was completely unable to deal with him.

It was the right decision.

Was at the game. Kiddo couldn't hang after the bottom of the 11th, so we left our seats in the nosebleeds behind home and headed out.

Stopped on our way out to show her the visitor bullpen, and the Reds promptly manufactured the game-winning rally. After the 3rd out in the top of the 12th, Cordero made his way out from the bullpen. As he did, I yelled out that it was time to slam the door shut.

Cordero obliged.

I was at Riverfest downtown during the last parts of the game and while I'm happy that the Reds won (Wow, who saw a sweep of the Braves coming?! ), I'm happier that Micah is all right. That was dang scary and I was just watching the recap at reds.com. Poor guy. It sounds like he'll stay in Georgia for a few days and then rejoin the team later on in the road trip. No reports of any concussion so that's good but he had to get four stitches in his head. What a rough way to win a game! :(

Three strikeouts (K and K and K). Not sure why it's necessary to title it that way, since there was nothing bad about his effort today.

I'm not sure of the rule, but I certainly can't imagine there NOT being a rule to cover that sort of situation. I'm sure the pinch runner would be allowed to simply take first base. Baseball's not THAT heartless.
