Joey should be chomping at the bit to get to Chicago since he's usually a Cubs killer. It's been a rough stop for him in Denver. :(

Non baseball player question: Does the high altitude and thinner air really have that much of an impact on a baseball player's hitting? I've seen it have impacts on figure skaters (I went to Colorado Springs a couple of years ago and some of them had to have oxygen after they got off the ice  ) but this is one of the first times I've really watched the Reds play the Rockies in Colorado and they don't look like the same team that swept the Braves just a few days ago.

The thinner the air the less friction on the baseball, meaning less drag so balls fly further.

LOL ok. Well the last thing I'm gonna say on this is that I don't care that much about wins when it comes to pitchers individual stats. For example, Arroyo had 12 wins before tonight. Zach Greinke has 13. But I wouldn't say that Greinke is just a little better than Arroyo. He's much MUCH better than Arroyo. So I can't really say that Arroyo "deserves" more wins.

Codero rarely throws strikes. A patient team will beat him every time. And yes, that streak, often quoted as the reason Codero is so good, is over and only luck kept it from being over early. They cannot deal him soon enough to please me. And I know I'm in the minority.

TheNext44

This is business as usual for the Rockies. Going into the bottom of the 9th, I felt the Reds had a 50-50 chance of winning it, if that. And none of that was because of lack of faith in Cordero.

I think you are right on that, but regardless, it's a severe disappointment when management just left him out there. Having faith in players is wonderful, but it has been obvious for awhile that Codero isn't pitching well. This unwritten law that you turn it over to the closer and what happens happens is probably the stupidest unwriten law ever created (if unwritten laws are created :))

To me, his record is not a measure of his proficiency. He's been very very lucky to get the save on several occasions. And the defense has bailed him out on several others... last night, it didn't. His record is not because he's a great, lights out closer because he isn't... it's always an adventure and hopefully, a lot of luck.

Oh, well.

We should lead the series 2-1 going into today, but some bad luck and jpoor performances by the bullpen has led us to 0-3. I fear we'll get swept and go into Chicago and do the same--for a 3-7 road trip, which would make the record 7-7 over the last 14 games! So much for that 7-win streak, huh?
