1-2 Drew attack! :rockband:

_Sir_Charles_

Coghlan 5 for 5 in this series now after his leadoff single.

A wild pitch moves him to second, and Johnson dribbles one to Homer for the first out.

Coghlan nailed at third by Miller trying to steal third...2 down for Ramirez.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:20 PM
Ramirez pops out in foul ground to Corky. 3 up 3 down...not traditional, but it worked. :O)

Tom Servo
09-18-2009, 07:23 PM
Kinda looked like the Reds players were tickling each other in the dugout lmao.

And according to George, this is the first ever Drew attack by any team, ever.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:23 PM
Anybody know why Bruce isn't starting? Seems odd.

Stubbs robbed on a linedrive to Ramirez. Nice snag.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:24 PM
Sutton shows warning track power again. At least we're getting good wood on the ball. Votto up with 2 down. 7 game hitting streak for Joey.

Tom Servo
09-18-2009, 07:25 PM
Vottomatic getting going again. Single to left.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:25 PM
Make it 8 games! Linedrive single for Vottomatic.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:29 PM
Brandon pops out to first to end the inning. 0-0 after 1.

I'm liking how we're getting solid contact off this guy. We're gonna score some runs tonight.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:33 PM
Another leadoff single for the fish. Cantu with the single to right.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:37 PM
Nice over the shoulder catch by Votto to sit Uggla down.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:41 PM
Homer k's Ross to end the inning. I missed what happened to Baker/Cantu.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:43 PM
Is it just me or does it look like Homer is keeping something off the fastball early in the games and building up his velocity as the game advances?

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:46 PM
2 quick rollers to Hanley by Rolen & Gomes are the first 2 down. So the bases are empty for Wlad....kinda like this game thread. Wlad quickly strikesout to end the inning.

Echo...Echo...Echo....

*crickets*

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:53 PM
Hmmmm...this is getting repetitive. Another leadoff single against Homer. Cameron Maybin with a single to rcf.

_Sir_Charles_

This is some painful looking bunt attempt. Somebody needs some time in the cage. Vandenhurk k's after 2 sad bunt tries.

Nice snag by Wlad to end Coghlans domination of the Reds staff. 2 outs.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 07:58 PM
Nice curveball from Homer there. First I've seen from him tonight.

Maybin nailed on the steal attempt to end the inning. Nice gun from Corky.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:01 PM
Jeez guys, at least TRY to work the count a bit. First pitch swinging ends Corky's AB. PO to left.

Stubby with a single. Hit 'em where they ain't Drew!

SB for Stubbs! I don't care WHAT they're saying in the ORG...Stubbs has got some SERIOUS skills!

hehe. Thanks doug. I just can't understand how "some" can still say that he's got no power. Good grief...those have been some BOMBS he's been hitting. And to all fields no less. I just don't get it.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:14 PM
Homer finally stops the leadoff man from getting on. Johnson grounded out to short. Hanley follows that with a flyball to Gomes.

Cantu up with 2 down.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:18 PM
I missed it, but Homer gets his third K and sits down Jorge.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:22 PM
Brandon hit a rocket but right at Cantu. Rolen grounded out to Ramirez. Gomes up with 2 down.

Here comes the dinger.

pop out to short right. So much for the "called shot". Durnit.

1-0 good guys heading to the top of the 5th frame.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:26 PM
Uggla, Baker & Ross for the Fish.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:27 PM
Homer showing some solid control of the zone tonight. 3 k's and 0 walks. 46 strikes 27 balls.

_Sir_Charles_

Wow...that was poorly timed. Uggla draws the walk.

_Sir_Charles_

Got away with one there. Hung a curveball to Maybin.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:34 PM
Good decision not to do the big K's for Homer's 3rd strikeout.

LOL. I learned that lesson earlier this year. :O)

Maybin grounds out to short to end the inning.

_Sir_Charles_

89 pitches for Homer after 5. 58 for strikes. 0 runs, 3 hits, 1 walk & 5 strikeouts. Solid...again.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:37 PM
Another 1 pitch out for Vandenhurk. Wlad hits a rocket right at Cantu again.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:38 PM
Corky makes him work a bit and draws the walk.

_Sir_Charles_

Tom Servo
09-18-2009, 08:48 PM
6 scoreless for Homer. Man is he ever pitching good these last few weeks.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:49 PM
Gomes pulls in Hanley's shot to the wall. Another scoreless frame for Mr. Bailey.

101 pitches. I'm guessing he'll go at least one more inning. It's been pretty low impact thus far.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:52 PM
Pirates beating Pads 3-1 in the 5th
Astros up 1-0 in the third over the brewcrew
Cubs up 2-0 in the second over the Cards

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:53 PM
Sutton K'd to start the inning. Joey with a shallow pop out to left. Vandenhurk not even at 80 pitches yet. Sheesh!

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:55 PM
Brandon with a double to extend his streak to 9 games!

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 08:58 PM
Rolen draws the 4 pitch walk. This kid is rattled for some reason. He's lost the zone. Strange since he's been cruising (thanks to the 1 & 2 pitch AB's the Reds have been handing him)

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 09:00 PM
Let's go Jonny! Let's play some add on!

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 09:03 PM
Crud. Gomes flies out to end the inning. It remains 1-0 heading to the 7th. Apparently this kid Vandenhurk has never made it to the 7th before. I wonder if they'll let him have a chance at it. I doubt it.

110 pitches for Homer. 70 strikes, 40 balls.

Great, he's pitched a good game. But let's not push him too much for once. 118 pitches is enough.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 09:11 PM
117 for Homer. I'd like Dusty to pull him here. Let him end it on a really high note there. Absolutely great outting there kid. He's been simply outstanding since his last callup.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 09:13 PM
Calero replaces Vandenhurk. Pretty good outting from him. Let's see what we can do off the Fish-pen.

Homer's due up third this inning. I'd say he's done.
Wlad draws the leadoff walk.

Yep. Stubbs has taken his place rather nicely though. We don't leave empty voids here at RZ.

_Sir_Charles_

Corky sac bunted Wlad over to 2nd. Nix popped out on the first pitch for the 2nd out.

Stubbs lines out to left to end things.

_Sir_Charles_
09-18-2009, 09:19 PM
Homer's final line:

7.0 ip / 3 hits / 0 runs / 2 bb / 8 k's / 117 pitches

There's some blame on Balentien too, and I'm sure Dusty will punish him for it. But it's not like letting the lead-off guy on meant that CoCo had to give up basehits to every guy after that.

It's a bloomin' shame. But I refuse to get too down on Cordero. He's been VERY good all year long. I'm also not going to get down on Baker there. In that situation, you go to your horse. Period.

Codero fifth night in a row=trouble. But 'ol Dusty has a routine and be damned if he'll change that routine because that's the way it's always done, right? CF is leadoff, SS bats second, closer in the ninth.

It's going to drive us all insane.

That's the way I saw it too. After pitching 4 nights in a row, you rest your closer and let someone else give it a shot. I'd have said something beforehand but I was busy eating pizza. Still a great outing for Homer.

Francisco -- whoa. He obliterated that fastball from Nunez.

Nice intimidation quotient on the stance, too.

Sometimes, despite what minor league numbers say, some prospects cannot be denied.

A couple runners on base is the only thing that would've made Francisco's hr better. But I'm almost afraid some will get carried away with their reaction. Great 1st hit in the majors but that doesn't mean he should be handed a roster spot on the 2010 team.

I knew someone would blame Dusty there. I disagree, completely. Cordero has not been throwing hardly any pitches these last few nights. And that situation pretty much demands you use the guy you're paying (or over paying, depending on who's asking) to do that job. Last night was the best I've seen Cordero all year long. There were certainly no indications that he was tired, that's for sure.

It was just a bad outting by Cordero and some timely hitting for the Fish. But since Dusty's the manager, I guess it's all his fault. :thumbdown

By the way, it was the fifth night in a row by Masset as well. He looked pretty darned solid out there. Does that mean Dusty gets the credit for that too? Or should we give it to the player who earns it?

Ah, ignore me. I'm just grumpy 'cuz we lost. :-(

Cincinnati 68 80 .459 17.5

They've only lost 80 games this year, he can't be the blame for all of those. Can he? :)

Pretty much gave up all interest in this team 3 or 4 weeks ago. Was at tonight's game.....still see no reason to care.

Based on last night's attendance of 9600 people, I'd say the rest of the city doesn't really care either.

Homer pitched well. Stubbs runs fast. Corky Miller threw out a couple runners. Other than that.......? Well. Um. That goofy deal in the 8th with Phillips and Votto was kinda neat since we had no idea what happened and had never seen anything like that.

Without a major infusion of talent, this team is going nowhere in 2010.

Sir Charles, when you become the manager of a team, whether it be major or little league, the moves you make define you. Those who make moves that are successful get credit for those moves. Those who make moves that are not successful get credit for those moves, too. Tonight, he went to the well with Codero too many times. Although many here think Codero has been lights out, he hasn't. At least lately. Now, I know someone will quote some statistics that show us that he is wonderful, but the eye tells us that he simply is worn out from thowing 20-26 pitches in an inning. Burton always is a go to guy, and that didn't work either (he's had an off year), so those two moves cost the Reds the ballgame. They were Dusty's decisions. I'm sure Francisco and Burton went out there to walk players and allow hits, but it is up to the field management to see a problem and come up with a solution.

Ignore me, too. I'm pretty grumpy myself. I wish I could be like Ltlabner and just not care anymore, but try as I might I can't.

In the Reds last 10 games they're 5-5. If they win half of their last 14 games they'll finish with more wins then last year despite all of the injuries that they've had this year. Obviously, they still have some work to do but I wouldn't say that a winning season in 2010 is out of the question.

As far as pythag goes, the Reds are easily in the bottom three in all of baseball.

Injuries or not, it's just the same old Reds.

Even injury free, the Reds are still lucky to sniff .500.

How in the heck would that give me hope for 2010?

Minor league numbers say Francisco can crush pitches. He can also strike out. He doesn't do either all the time.
