Reds already up 1-0 in the 2nd on Stubbs 8th HR.

8 dingers in less than 40 games? Nope, no power there. :O)

Just get comfortable on those breaking pitches and I think we've got a keeper.

Stubbs CF
Nix LF
Votto 1B
Phillips 2B
Francisco 3B
Bruce RF
Hanigan C
Janish SS
Arroyo P

Not a bad lineup there IMO. I like Janish in there, but I like him low in the order. Nix in the 2 hole is intriguing.

9 straight retired by Arroyo. He's been about as solid as you can get lately.

And Juan made his first play at third. Looked pretty smooth. It wasn't tough...but hey, it's his first action. The nerves have got to be pretty shaky.

Thanks for the PBP tonight since we don't have this game on TV. :)

Nice to see Drew hit another dinger and I'm always happy to see Joey get a solid hit in his first at bat. Hopefully this is a good game for the Reds tonight. :)

BTW-I met Joey earlier today at an appearance near me and he was BEYOND wonderful. :) He was very personable and friendly and he seems genuinely thankful to do what he does for a living. He was very gracious to all the fans and was so cute with the little kids who were there. It was a great experience, one I know I would NEVER get at Redsfest, and I'm very glad I went to meet him today. I got a picture with him too which makes the whole thing even better! :D

I am all of 5'1" tall and Joey is 6'3", so yes, he is freaking huge next to me and when I told him, "Wow, you are very tall!" before this picture, he laughed quite a bit right along with me because it was pretty funny. And thanks for the compliment. They just have some weak swings....like they are not picking hum up well at all.

Also bothered me that Stubbs on 1st... 2 and 0 on Nix and he swings at a ball and then swings again when he could have let Stubbs steal very easily. What good is trying to get a running game going if you are not going to let him steal the base.

Fwiw, Nolasco is already on the way to 200 k's and the Reds lineup is just the type to help him get there. But Nolasco can have all the k's he wants if Arroyo can get the win.

I wasn't trying to say that Ricky isn't a strikeout pitcher. Just that he's got way too many, way too early in the game, on way too few pitches. Somebody needs to stand up in the dug out and tell the hitters to be more patient at the plate.

True, but a little bit of offense would've helped. There's nothing wrong with allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Most pitchers win that game.

No staff has an ERA below three, so you must score at least three to tie. In most cases you give up four, so you must score five. Unfortunately, this team is not capable of consistently scoring more than 3 runs. Pitching and defense is great unless your offense is so horrible that you can't score runs--i.e. the Reds.

Almost half of his k's are from Arroyo and Francisco. Francisco has a reputation for k's. And Bruce is a work in progress that, yes, does have to improve but I wouldn't expect it to happen overnight. We can get on Phillips for his 2 k's but why? It's one game. I'll agree that approach is something that the hitters have to work on if they want to end the losing season streak next season but I'm just not gonna get too hung up on this game.

Fair enough. I guess it was the combination of everything that irritated me. 10 k's before the 7th inning and under 80 pitches. That ain't too good.

But regardless, Nolasco's pitched a VERY nice game. Heck, so did Bronson for that matter.

It's hard to say in retrospect but Rolen usually gets a big hit when you need one so I don't blame Dusty for going with him at that time. Yeah, I agree. I don't disagree with Dusty there. But considering the situation, the young kid usually doesn't feel the pressure as much and a big hit there can really turn him around. But Bruce's been struggling and Rolen's pretty dependable with pitchers from both sides. Like I said, I don't disagree with it...but I PERSONALLY would've taken the other path.

Regardless, some nice pitching by the Reds tonight. Stubbs showing some MORE pop and patience at the dish. And Hanigan showing everyone that he's not going to just HAND the starters role back over to Hernandez. Double-digit RBI'S baby! hehe. :O)

My wife and I were at the game tonight and I was amazed at Stubbs' power. He didn't even get all of that ball.

Disappointing game with the loss, but a beautiful night for a game.
