Why isn't Bruce playing every day? This is rediculous

Bad matchup with Wandy.

3-0 Astros in the 5th. Cueto really squeezed hard all day long so far. We were hitting Wandy pretty solidly early on but didn't break thru...now he's settled in and pitching well. Let's hope the bats re-appear.

66 pitches through 5 for Cueto....that's nice to see.

Gomes doubles scoring Phillips, safe and Gomes moves to third on the throw home.

Brandon with a infield single. Gomes with a first pitch double to score Brandon...advances to third on the throw.

3-1. 1 down.

McDonald up....extended his hitting streak to 7 games with his first ab.

From what I've seen this series from Tejada, I want no part of him as a FA.

Yes, he can hit, but as a SS, he's finished. No range, no arm. Stubbs has outrun him several times on easy ground balls.

Maybe he can play LF, but so can a lot of people.

Spot on. He's very sound fundamentally and makes few mistakes, but far from a good defender.

His SS play this year is about as poor as the position can be played, just horrific.

Dusty should hit for Cueto here.

Disagree. Johnny's settling down and he's got a VERY nice & low pitch count. Our bats have been on fire lately and we're starting to get a handle on Wandy. Wandy's pitch count is already over 100 and the 'stros pen has been very hittable.

Agree to disagree......you have a deep bench and bullpen is rested. IF it was before SEPT i can see it but now?

Day off tomorrow as well. I'm ok w/ Cueto staying in just because his pitch count is low....and he needs to learn how to pitch deep into games.

If it was a pennant race....I think Dusty would have pulled him.

Well he almost showed why he should have been pulled....and this is not an isolated thing. Dusty did that a few times with Arroyo and Harang.

But i do see...the Cueto has to pitch deeper into games so it might as well be now theory.

_Sir_Charles_
09-27-2009, 03:47 PM
For me, it's more of a quesiton of which you consider more important. This one win late in a season already over, or buiding up the confidence of a young cog of the rotation for next season? I'd take the latter. Especially with him coming off his best inning of the game.

Cueto has had an issue of being overworked. That has to be considered in to the decision process. He probably has one more start this year. It's Houston, its hot. Not the time for "teaching lessons".

Dusty tends to script his game plan the same way, no matter who is involved.
That really bothers me (among other things about Dusty).

CF hits first, SS second, C eighth. SP goes 7, and if I can squeeze 8 out of him, better.

Cueto, and Bailey still have to be coddled a bit, IMO.
Volquez, too...if we get him back.

Cueto's already missed several starts in a row a month ago. He's fairly rested. His pitch count is quite low. And the roof's closed. They're playing in A/C. It's quite cool in there. I would've been ok with it either way, but it's kind of hard to be too critical of Dusty on this one.

Berkman k'd to end the inning. Nice outing for Cueto.

7 innings, 5 hits allowed & 5 k's. The 4 walks hurt but I think only 2 of them were deserved. The ump was VERY tight with Johnny early on.

Well, I do. We've seen enough of Rosales to know that he's not a fielding genius or a strong hitter of MLB pitching. We need to see more of Francisco. Same with McDonald. He must have pictures of Dusty with...something. He also must have pictures of Walt and Cast too. This one just mystifies me. I know he's had 11 hits in his last ten games, but he's struck out 13 times and he feasts on poor pitching. He's herion to guys like Baker. Just can't get enough of those light hitting, speedy players.

Then again if there would have been batters in front of Votto and Phillips all season that could get on base, the Reds might have won some of those one and two run games that they lost, they might have won 8-9 more games and actually been a .500 team. They have a very fine batter in Votto batting third, and no one in front of him getting on base most of the season.
