I want to see how Homer pitches tonight and I also want to see if Joey stays on fire offensively this week at home. Jay has been hitting well too so hopefully the Reds can start off the homestand with a win. Go Reds! :D

*continues ignoring who's in center field tonight* ;)

I'm glad they interviewed Joey during Reds Live about being the NL Player of the Week. I was hoping they would do that and it was a pretty cool interview. My favorite part was him talking about how if he'd played well last week but they'd lost all their games that the award would have felt like a selfish award, so he's very happy to have played so well and helped the team win their games because that's the most important thing to him. :)

Poor Thom is all alone tonight due to Jeff Brantley being out sick. He said Marty would stop by and Jim Day & Jeff Pecoro would also stop by to help him out. This could be an entertaining evening, LOL

FYI: They're going to show part of the ceremony honoring Joey as the NL Player of the Week soon. I'm glad I tuned in to the first parts of the game tonight! :D

During his pre-game conversation with Marty he said that Willy has good numbers against Pineiro.

I looked it up and before tonight, Taveras had 5 hits in 8 ABs against Pinero, all singles, with no walks and one K.

Why would Dusty care about those numbers so much? We need to be watching the young guys play to see what they can do. ANd if you are interested in winning, how can anyone really argue that Taveras gives you a better chance to win than Stubbs?

Tonight, Willy is already 0 for 2...

Hey..

I'm not a lumberjack, or a furtrader,
and I don't live in an igloo, eat blubber, or own a dogsled,
and I don't know Jimmy, Sally, or Susie from Canada,
although I'm sure they're really really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not a President.
I speak English and French, not American,
and I pronounce it about, not aboot
I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack;
I believe in peacekeeping, not policing;
and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal

a tuque is a hat,
a chesterfield is a couch,
and it is pronounced zed, not zee, zed!

Canada is the second largest land-mass,
the first nation of hockey,
and the best part of North America!

MY NAME IS JOE(y Votto), AND I AM CANADIAN!

Thank you.

Yeah, we're overdoing it a little, but it is so unnerving to look at the lineup and see his name when almost anyone is better. I also don't understand the lack of playing time for the hot hitting Gomes.

I think the thing that's most annoying is that he's hitting leadoff. I know we don't really have a "traditional" leadoff hitter, but just about anybody would be better in that role on this club.

I know it's the thing to do, you know...bashing Willy...but he hasn't been horrible ALL season. He did have a very nice beginning to the season. After the first month and a half, Willy was hitting .322. He's more than made up for it though. *grin*

Yes, he started off decently. But to go from .322 on May 13th, down to .239 on September 29, means that he hit well under .200 for four months.

Willy Taveras is historically bad. I think he would be on the all-time team of worst position players who had 400 or more plate appearances in one season. His line is currently .239/.273/.284 for an OPS of .557. And the Reds have him leading off!

No, a batting average of .322. When they were playing San Diego. Don't recall the date. But .322 was his high water mark and then came that horrific hitless streak of 2 weeks including a couple 0 for 7's IIRC.

And with that...Willy gets a hit.

Through 5 and a half, Reds 4, Cards 1.

Bailey: 97 pitches, 66 strikes, 7Ks.
Pinero: 67 pitches, 39 strikes, 0 Ks.

I would take Homer out here. I am really concerned about how many more innings he has pitched this season than ever before(Verducci effect), and six is enough tonight since he has thrown 97 pitches. I will be shocked if the Dusty agrees.

Finishing with an ERA below 5.00 (it's currently 4.78) for the season is a great accomplishment for Homer Bailey.

Based on his second half, I think he's pitched his way into the rotation for 2010 regardless of how his spring training goes. That's amazing, given where he was just a year ago.
