View Full Version : Rumor making the rounds around Cincy

There is a rumor going around that The Reds and Marlins are discussing a Uggla(sp) trade. Was told there would be more players involved but Uggla from the Marlins and Dickerson, Maloney from the Reds are the key players being talked about. Now its just a rumor but it could be a sign of slight hope for this Reds team.

Move Phillips to SS and Uggla at 2nd. Could be nice.

Talk in Cincy is that The Reds and Rays are talking Brignac. I heard a Dickerson and Maloney may be on their way to Tampa for Brignac and a young pitcher cant remember the name. But its just a rumor making the rounds around the city nothing concrete. Just thought Id pass it along.

As much as i would like this to be true it sounds like I have heard this one before.

Would be sweet, but I don't see it happening.

Heh, toss in Alonso and some others too so that Hanley comes our way ;).

Doesn't specifically mention the Reds but got this from MLBtraderumors.com:

Marlins president Larry Beinfest tells MLB.com's Joe Frisaro that "there is still some stuff simmering." The club hopes to trade Dan Uggla, according to Frisaro.

That is probably enough to get the rumor mill working overtime.

Source, there is no source. Its a rumor that is floating around local joints in Cincy. Its nothing more than a rumor. Thats exactly what it is, a rumor.

Its like talks that get started and bounced around but nothing comes from them. Then a couple weeks or a month later the trade goes down.

All I can say is what I hear why Im out. I guess 3 weeks ago the talks got started and now maybe there moving along a bit. But i dont know. There no way I can tell anything more. Like I said its a rumor nothing more. But this is the second time I have heard a rumor like this.

Dan Uggla in LF would look good for the Reds

1. Stubbs CF
2. Phillips 2B
3. Votto 1B
4. Rolen 3B
5. Bruce RF
6. Uggla LF
7. Hernandez C
8 Janish SS

I hit for high average with a good OBP...but a little to much like Sean Casey in that Id only hit 10-15 HRs. Quick someone grab me some HGH.:p:

so ... everyone's ok with a 2nd baseman that can't field a lick and hit .240 last season but didn't want a LF that couldn't field a lick but drew 100 walks and hit 50 HRs a season?

First time Uggla boots a couple, throws one in the crowd, and goes 0-3 he'll be booed out of town.

I'd rather see him go to SF and the Reds go after Orlando Cabrera (still wanted Orlando Hudson but that ship has sailed)

One player I haven't heard much about is Xavier Nady. I believe he's a free agent, and coming off surgery so I don't think he'll get much in this market. I'd rather have Nady then Gomes in LF. 1 million may do it, and a healthy Nady makes the Reds legit contenders in a weak NL Central.

Stubbs/Dickerson
Rolen
Votto
Nady
Phillips
Bruce
Hernandez
Janish

It would be decent assuming Nady is healthy

Hey thanks for posting the rumors you are hearing.I for one like to get info even if it is just a rumor at this point. I think it adds to the board and some rumors end up becoming facts. If nothing else it give us something to talk about in an otherwise boring off season.

Coco, Maloney, Cozart + 10 mil (I'd imagine since it's the Marlins)

for Johnson

Then move Harang or Arroyo to LA and get back Guillen and cash.

Johnson
AH/BA
Bailey
Cueto
FA (Sheets or Marquis?) or Lehr/Wood

Stubbs
Janish
Votto
Guillen
Bruce
Rolen
BP
Ramon

That's a rumor now, so...

Talked to Lance McCalister on facebook chat and asked him if he heard any reds rumors... From what he is hearing the Reds are pushing hard to deal Harang, Arroyo, or Codero in order to free up enough salary to sign two guys. According to Lance he has heard OF Xavier Nady and SP Chien-Ming Wong are two players Walt Jocketty may take a flier on because they are low risk-high reward type guys. But also look out for a SS to be signed and he has heard from a couple sources Jocketty favors Miguel Tejada over Orlando Cabrera simply because with Scott Rolen at third he doesn't have to worry about his SS having range issues.

Lineup?

1. CF Stubbs
2. SS Tejada
3. 1B Votto
4. 2B Phillips
5. 3b Rolen
6. RF Bruce
7. LF Nady
8. C Hernandez/Hanigan

Rotation?

1. Cueto
2. Bailey
3. Harang/Arroyo
4. Chien-Ming Wong
5. Noah Lowry?

Palmer in CF. Problem is, he might not be able to throw it to 2B. He'd have to have a relay man in short center for those balls that go to the wall.

The Reds did indeed sign the Invisible Man to a contract during the Winter Meetings. Unfortunately, Commissioner Selig had no choice except to void the contract. It turns out that the contract was signed in Invisible Ink. :)

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Reds are still trying to trade right-hander Aaron Harang.

If general manager Walt Jocketty still wants to slash payroll, freeing themselves of Harang's salary would be a good start. Harang is owed $12.5 million next season with a $12.75 million club option for 2011. He has struggled for two straight seasons, with some injuries along the way, but he's worth a gamble for a team who wouldn't want to absorb the large part of a massive contract like Derek Lowe of the Braves.
