This worked out pretty well last few seasons so I figured that I would start it up again this year and see if it gets the same response.

Please respond in this thread if you want to be the GM of a team. The first people to respond to the thread with the team they want will get that team. We will start the draft on March 1st.

Please refer to the link below if you want an idea on how this has been done the past few years.

http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74100&highlight=2009+NFL+mock+draft

The draft will be three rounds, just like last season. I am going to draft for the New Orleans Saints. I will update the draft order once the coin flips have taken place. Chicago and Carolina do not have 1st round picks currently but will need people to draft the other rounds for them.

I've got the Giants.

I was going to start this - but you beat me to it. I think we need to start later and assign times so everyone knows exactly when they are drafting and we can wait until after combines and free agency so people know what teams are looking for (and so we don't go 24 hours waiting for a pick again).

There will be no trades between mock drafters. If a trade occurs in the NFL before we start our draft I will adjust the picks accordingly.

I doubt that we'll need to have people draft for 2 teams. We only have 11 teams left to fill and still 2+ weeks before we start drafting.

Question: Why are we doing the "mock" draft so darn early.

It's going to be a pretty silly "mock" and have absolutely nothing to do with the real thing because you're conducting it before Free Agency even begins.

Every time a Free Agent is signed, it changes what will happen in the real draft.

I thought the purpose of a "mock" draft was to get a gauge on what would really happen when the draft happens. April 1st would be a much more sensible time to begin the draft.

Redszone viewers are so vigilant about checking things that they're involved in, that the whole 1st Round will probably be finished in less than 5 days, and more likely less than 3 days.

There's a lot of expertise here. I'd love to see us take advantage of that and have a real "mock" draft in order to get a good idea of what will actually happen when the draft comes April 22nd.

http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74100&highlight=2009+NFL+Mock+Draft

Started on March 1st, ended on April 3rd.

http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65808&highlight=2008+NFL+Mock+Draft

Began February 29th, ended April 16th.

An idea I had would be to possibly set a day where we could have a speed rush with the mock draft. I've done this before in sim leagues and keeper fantasy leagues that I have been in. Get as many people as possible to meet in the Redszone Chat Room on say April 1st and hammer out as many picks as possible. For those who can't make it, send a prerank out ahead of time to Buckeye33.

I working on it - if we set times (say number 1 pick, March 22 from 8-10am; pick 2, March 22 from 10-noon, etc.)

With 2 hour windows and starting with 8-10 am window and ending with 8-10 pm window that is 7 picks a day - that means we would be done in 14 or 15 days. So if we start Monday March 22 we would conclude in early April (assuming we take weekends off).

But i am willing to do schedule so everyone will know exact dates and times their window comes up and can prepare accordingly. I think we can easily make this work.

Texans are my favorite team. I'll gladly take them from you camisa!

What you do effects what the Bengals do, since you pick directly ahead of them and have a couple of similar needs.

You need a Cornerback and Zimmer wants a Nickleback.

You need a Defensive End, and Antwan Odom is the most unreliable Defensive End in the NFL. The Bengals need a Defensive End.

You need a Free Safety, and the Bengals need a Free Safety.

You don't need a TE or WR, though and the Bengals need both of those.

The Jaguars will draft 10th overall in April after winning a coin flip with Denver at the Scouting Combine on Friday. The Broncos will draft 11th.

The Falcons will draft 19th overall in the first round after winning a coin flip at the Combine on Friday.
The Texans will go 20th. (you already have it set up this way)

Can we do trades? I have had several people PM me about trades.

We have not done trades in either of the last 2 years and I do not want to start this year. Lets just stick with doing a basic mock draft.

So who is now going to take Bruce Campbell in the top 10? He ran a 4.78 40 today as a big OL.

A guy's 40 time has got to be the least significant stat for an O lineman. How often do these guys run 40 yards? I'm much more interested in footwork, strength, arm length and other things

But, the quicker the better for run blocking, right? I guess you wouldn't need a whole 40 yard dash to show that though, maybe 10-15.

Taylor Mays just ran a 4.24.

Oh, he weighs 230 as well.

Edit: it was just just changed to a 4.43. Got a little excited.

Considering I'm picking the Raiders and I have an unnatural affinity for the actor Bruce Campbell......maybe I will.

It would fit the "Al Davis Model" of 1st round picks..

OK, since we haven't had anyone take the last 5 teams I am going to open them up to anyone that wants a 2nd team.

Please leave what team you want if you want a 2nd team. Lets shoot for a start to the draft for Friday at Noon. I try to PM the next owner when I can once their pick is up.

I will go ahead and take the Jets even though they did end the Bengals season.

I also would like to select for the Bengals next year since I can never beat WMR to the daggone thread. :p:

I'll go ahead and pick for the Vikings as I have a couple buddies who are die hard Vikings fans so I'll let them tell me who they would take.

Draft starts today at noon. Please feel free to be creative in announcing your picks (pictures, commentary, etc)

With the first pick in the 2010 Redszone Mock Draft the St. Louis Rams select:

Defensive Tackle Ndamukong Suh from the University of Nebraska

With this selection the Rams hope to upgrade their defensive line from adequate to excellent.

Detroit Lions choose DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma Sooners

The Lions didn't have any trouble getting leads last year.

It was holding them where they struggled. With the addition of Vanden Bosch (though he hasn't got anything left physically, but his smarts will lead that Defense), Corey Williams and McCoy, the Lions finally have a season to look forward to again.
