Ben Sheets pitching for the A's.

I cannot do pbp right now, and won't be able to for a bit. Briefly, Dickerson on with a ground rule double on a ball to the track in LF that the A's outfielder misplayed and fell over trying to get to. Cabrera grounded back to mound off of Sheets' glove, bounced away, safe at first. Both players awarded hits.

Votto doubled into the left-center gap to drive home 1. Runners at 2nd and 3rd. Rolen up. Anyone listening on MLB audio that can pick it up, have at it, otherwise all I can really do is give summaries.

membengal
03-15-2010, 04:19 PM
Rolen walks to load bases.

Gomes works count full and lines a hit off of Kouzmanoff's glove at 3b, two runs score, gomes to second with a double.

3-0 Reds lead, no outs still, top of first.

membengal
03-15-2010, 04:22 PM
Nix singles home two more. 5-0 game, still no outs.

Juan Francisco up.

Francisco singles, first and second.

Then Miles grounds up middle, but E-4 on Mark Ellis, negating a potential double play. Run scores, 6-0.

Then Wilkin Castillo doubles up the gap, 8-0 Reds lead. Still no one out.

A's announcers are laughing over the absurdity. "Seen any good movies lately?" Kinda funny.

Sheets is done for the day. I guess he "got his work in".

membengal

A Hernandez of some sort or another in to pick up the pieces.

Cabrera grounds out to SS to a rousing sarcastic cheer from the throng.

10-0 Reds middle of two.

membengal

Gomes, Nix and Francisco retired in short order. This "Hernandez" that they brought in for Sheets, has brought competence back to the Oakland mound.

10-0 Reds after 2.

Well going off of the pbp it looks like there was 1 error negating a potential dp and three other balls that went off gloves or misjudged that were all called hits. Hard on the pitcher when you give the other team 8 outs in an inning.

membengal

For the record, Aroldis Chapman has not been treated thusly in his outings...nor has Mike Leake. Or Travis Wood for that matter.

membengal

Dusty, looking to protect the lead, has Cordero up and warming.

(please know that I am kidding---about protecting the lead, but Cordero IS warming up)

When it was 10-0, I was just thinking to myself "ya know if Lincoln throws three scoreless this game, it probably moves him back to the front of the que."

Just curious why you think this? Dusty moved him out of the bullpen and they're obviously trying to find a role for him which isn't a bad idea when you have $2 million tied into him. Might as well find out if he absolutely won't be able to help you before you cut him.

ST stats matter except when they don't I don't see either Stubbs or Dickerson with a stranglehold on CF. I don't think Gomes has that kind of hold on LF. Agreed. I'd like to see Maloney, Wood, or one of the vets (Lehr or Wells) take the #5 spot at least for April. If they falter, bring up one of the other guys listed above to do it for May. Then bring up Chapman or Leake if they tear it up in Louisville for the first two months of the season, and save an extra year of eligibility (at least in Leake's case.)

Plus, if Maloney or Wood pitches well and Leake and Chapman are forcing your hand, you could conceivably fetch a nice return in a trade for either lefty (Maloney or Wood.)

What is that, about a .400 OBP, .684 SLG and .1084 OPS ?

I am real happy for him. Anyone esle doing that well for the Reds, even though "spring stats" don't mean anything to the masses?

Pay no attention to these numbers. They are only meaningful if applied to a number one draft choice or a media favorite. ;)

Game notes
Oakland RHP Jason Jennings changed his number from 77 to 29 for the rest of spring training. ... Oakland pitching prospect Travis Wood threw three innings, allowing one run. It's the only run he has given up in seven innings. Wood had a 1.21 ERA in the Southern League last season. ... Gomes also had a pair of hits, raising his average to .333.

oh espn, never change. or fact check.

Funny how that trade to Oakland never hit the threads here at RZ...
