I'm like a school boy waiting for recess. I'm absolutely itching to follow a spring training game thread because of who is pitching.

All I can really say is:

Thank you Walt and Bob.

Spring~Fields

Two games today, one at 4:05, another at 10:05 pm. against Cleveland

TRF
03-17-2010, 02:35 PM
Cozart instead of Janish. that's interesting. As is Castillo catching. Perhaps a sign of things to come for Chapman in the near future.

membengal
03-17-2010, 02:51 PM
Am I reading that wrong? Looks like Ramon catching, and Castillo at 2b.

TRF
03-17-2010, 03:38 PM
duh. i'm an idiot.

TRF
03-17-2010, 03:40 PM
and to me that's even more odd. Castillo SHOULD be catching Chapman. Hernandez is enough of a vet to pick up on Chapman's tendencies quickly. Castillo should be developing a rapport with Chapman.

membengal
03-17-2010, 03:42 PM
Again, and I know you all think I am reading too much into things, unless they are more seriously considering Chapman to come north than many folks on here are thinking.

Can you guys in Cincy see the game today? I know MLB audio is up, but is there video anywhere?

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:02 PM
No video.

Crikey the organ is loud.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:03 PM
I note with some amusement the lefty Prince Fielder has the day off.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:08 PM
Weeks homers to start the game.

As a Rickie Weeks owner, I am somewhat emotionally conflicted by this development.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:08 PM
Next hitter flies out to right center.

_Sir_Charles_
03-17-2010, 04:09 PM
And that ERA is at 0.00 no more. Big blast from Rickie Weeks

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:11 PM
Ryan Braun Ks looking.

Two down.

TRF
03-17-2010, 04:12 PM
Well, he announced his presence with authority.

come on, you all were thinking it. :)

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:13 PM
Sounded indeed like Weeks hit the bull. Won a steak.

Chapman K's Hart.

Nice bounceback.

Two Ks in the inning.

1-0 Brewers middle of 1.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:15 PM
And, in all seriousness, the mlb.com announcing crew said it looked like a 3-1 change in a bad location on the Weeks homerun.

reds44
03-17-2010, 04:16 PM
My name is Chris Dickerson, and I get hits.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:16 PM
Dickerson flares a single into left-center to get the Reds started in the bottom of the first.

One on, no one out.

Zach Cozart up now.

TRF
03-17-2010, 04:16 PM
any gamecast or such?

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:18 PM
6-4-3 DP and two outs.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:19 PM
It's on mlb.com audio. Probably gamecast too.

Votto flies out.

1-0 Brewers after one.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:21 PM
Per Sheldon's twitter, 17 pitches for Chapman in the first, 10 for strikes. The K on Braun was a 90 mph slider. The K on Hart a 97 mph fastball.

The home run to Weeks, on a change-up per the announcing crew.

reds44
03-17-2010, 04:23 PM
Another K for Chapman.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:23 PM
Strike 3! 3 K's in a row...

Got him with the slider.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:23 PM
Stefan Wilson leading off the Brewers second Ks on a slider.

Nasty pitch per the announcing crew.

Craig Counsell up, bounces to Votto for out number two on the first pitch he sees.

Two outs.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:24 PM
Counsell grounds out on the first pitch... probably just wanted to get out of the box.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:25 PM
Strikes out Escobar! 4 K's in 2 innings!

reds44
03-17-2010, 04:25 PM
And another K.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:25 PM
Brewers prospect Alicedes Escober Ks on a change.

1-0 Brewers after two.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:26 PM
That's indeed 4 Ks in two innings of work for Chapman, and six in a row retired since the leadoff homerun. Like seeing him bounce back from that. Big time.

TRF
03-17-2010, 04:27 PM
Shows he's gained some poise since the WBC.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:27 PM
Chapman needed just 10 pitches if Fay is right with his tweet, to get the last three outs, two of them Ks.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:28 PM
Rolen grounds out to 3b to start the second.

Doug Davis, former and now again current Brewer, on the mound for Milwaukee to start the game, by the way.

TheNext44
03-17-2010, 04:29 PM
I'm not sure of this, but I think the first batter has reached in every Chapman appearance so far.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:30 PM
Gomes Ks. Two down.

Balentin up.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:34 PM
ANOTHER K for Chapman. This is unreal.

And now he gets to face the pitcher Doug Davis.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:34 PM
Person I need to talk to is on the phone, so am in a holding pattern.

In the meantime, another K for Chapman.

That's 5 now.

reds44
03-17-2010, 04:35 PM
lol this is AWESOME.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:35 PM
Announcers said Chapman is absolutely throwing gas at the moment, much harder than in the first few innings.

Perhaps he gets looser as he works into games.

Right now Doug Davis is trying to bunt. There is no one on.

Doug Davis makes contact, grounds out.

Two down.

Weeks up.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:36 PM
Davis grounds out up the middle.

membengal
03-17-2010, 04:38 PM
Weeks walks.

He was 1-2 on Weeks, then Weeks laid off a few close pitchs and took a slider on the full count pitch for ball four.

Homer Bailey
03-17-2010, 04:38 PM
Full count on Weeks....

And he walks him.

MikeS21
03-17-2010, 04:39 PM

well, yeah. Wells is awful... Just sayin' that the bat is one thing, but when looking at choosing a starting CF, that glove is pretty important too... I just remember Dickerson not always getting the best jumps, or taking the best path to the ball...

SirFelixCat
03-17-2010, 05:55 PM
Kottaras torches Wells for a double off the wall to lead off the 7th.

I'm sure he won't, but if Wells sniffs Cincy this year, we're in for a long, long summer.
