SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:04 PM
BA throwing strikes to start the game.

Gets Fowler to roll over on one and a nice play by Votto. 4-1 go. 1 down.

Barmes pops up to BP, 2 down.

03-22-2010, 04:08 PM
Gah, sorry, SirFelix, just saw your thread.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:08 PM
Spilborghs smokes the ole 'get ahead fastball' down into the RF corner and legs out a stand-up triple. Ball took a funny hop and Bruce couldn't hold him to a double.

BA starts TuLo w/ 2 sick curves to get ahead 0-2 and then throws another sick, sick hook and TuLo goes down swinging on 3 pitches. No worries about the triple.

Thru 0.5, 0-0.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:10 PM
No worries, memb. You can do the pbp if you want...you're much better at it then me :)

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:11 PM
Oh and I hope the Rockies keep their starters in for at least 6 innings today so we can see what Chapman does vs them. They are expected to smoke the NL West this year, so should be exciting to watch how he does!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:11 PM
Let's make this the official thread then...

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:12 PM
The lefty Jorge De La Rosa pitches.

Stubbs homers.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:12 PM
Stubbs SMOKES a 1-0 fastball down and in over the LF fence. 1-0 good guys! He looked like a lefty up there on the down and in pitch :):jump:

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:12 PM
Tell you all what, Stubbs has responded big time in the last 10 days. Gracious.

1-0 Reds.

nate
03-22-2010, 04:12 PM
That was a blast.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:13 PM
Cabrera pops out to 3b. Votto up.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:14 PM
Thom and Cowboy saying that w/ the exception of Deion Sanders, Stubbs is the fastest guy they have ever seen in a baseball uniform.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:15 PM
Votto looking good up there, even after falling behind looking at 2 pitches, 0-2. Fouls a couple off and gets the count to 3-2. but he K'd. 8 pitch AB though.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:15 PM
Votto making De La Rosa work. Would love to have Bruce find a way to approach hitting off of lefties like Votto does.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:16 PM
Votto Ks, but he saw 8 pitches in the at-bat.

03-22-2010, 04:17 PM
I really like the idea of platooning Gomes/Dickerson to start the season. That way the Reds could get Carbrera(or Stubbs) out of the top of the order but we know that isn't going to happen. Heck I'd be shocked if he hits out of the 2 hole once in the entire year.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:17 PM
Phillips pops out.

1-0 Reds after one.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:17 PM
BP does his best Willie Mays Haynes, sans pushups. End of 1, 1-0 Rojos.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:21 PM
Pop out to start the 2nd. Arroyo in a nice rhythm.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:21 PM
BA falls behind Olivio 2-0, then on a couple of benders, gets him to pop up. F-6. 1 down.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:21 PM
You do the pbp, I'll add color.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:22 PM
Can 'o corn.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:22 PM
Mora flies out to RF. Two down.

Chapman is going to look like he is throwing 200 mph when he follows Arroyo to the hill.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:23 PM
Ya know, for BA usually sucking during daylight hours (was his mother a vampire?!?), he's looking pretty filthy. Even moreso when you factor in that 'breaking ball' pitchers usually go to Arizona to die due to the dry air/elevation. Notsomuch says BA!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:23 PM
And now a K.

Arroyo looking very sharp.

1-0 middle of 2, Reds lead.

Scott "Professional at-bat" Rolen singles back through the box to start the 2nd.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:27 PM
Man, it's a beautiful day here (and down in Goodyear). Makes ya wanna go out and play some ball...or at least catch a game!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:27 PM
Bruce up, nice test here against the lefty. I think, without looking, that Bruce has had a slightly better spring against southpaws.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:27 PM
Bruce flies to CF, one out. Runner still on first.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:27 PM
Sounded like Bruce may need a new piece of lumber there.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:28 PM
Gomes is up.

FSN Ohio is apparently adding a pitchtrax to the broadcast this year. Joining the 21st century finally.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:28 PM
Now if only we could get the HD thing worked out on a consistent basis...

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:28 PM
This "foxtrax" that they're showing on the screen is pretty sexy. Kinda like the Pitchfx on gameday. Nice.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:29 PM
Also, the broadcasts will incorporate a super-duper-extra-slow-really-slow motion replay into the telecasts this year.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:29 PM
Now if only we could get the HD thing worked out on a consistent basis...

Seriously.

On an unrelated note, Gomes has never gotten cheated on a pitch, has he? We have a guy on our MSBL team that reminds me of him, but when he hits a ball, 'it stays hit'.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:30 PM
Gomes pops out to RF. Two down. Although the high sky almost messes up the Colorado RFer.

Hernandez up.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:30 PM
Good news for you in Cincy, Channel 12 will broadcast Opening Day along with FSN Ohio.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:31 PM
All games are in HD this year!!!

Finally!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:31 PM
Holy moley, all 145 FSN Ohio games will be on HD this year. Big news.

This game, most assuredly, is NOT in HD.

klw
03-22-2010, 04:31 PM
Also, the broadcasts will incorporate a super-duper-extra-slow-really-slow motion replay into the telecasts this year.

Good to hear as maybe we will be able to see a Chapman fastball at last.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:32 PM
Ramon Ks.

1-0 Reds after two.

kbrake
03-22-2010, 04:32 PM
Really wish my cable provider offered FSN in HD. Today's game looks like it was taped in 1971.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:33 PM
Wow, great day today. Gorgeous weather, pitch fx incorporated on Reds broadcasts, and all in HD. All that could make it better would be some enchiladas, but I'll have to settle on a chicken breast. C'est la vie.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:33 PM
Really wish my cable provider offered FSN in HD. Today's game looks like it was taped in 1971.

The key is to watch it on a older TV and it looks good :)

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:34 PM
Nothing sexier than having the screen chopped down on either side to accomodate a non-HD broadcast...

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:35 PM
Arroyo Ks another.

Superdude
03-22-2010, 04:36 PM
arroyo's looking SHARP!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:36 PM
And another.

Arroyo is vicious nasty with his stuff right now.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:38 PM
Fowler walks, two outs, one on. Fowler has plenty of speed to burn.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:39 PM
Membengal fantasy draftee Clint Barmes homers. 2-1 Rockies lead.

Hoosier Red
03-22-2010, 04:39 PM
Good to hear as maybe we will be able to see a Chapman fastball at last.

Can you hear better in HD? :)

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:40 PM
Spillboroughs fliest out to short LF.

2-1 Rockies middle of 3.

membengal

Bob C in the booth.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:43 PM
We've reached the Reds pitchers batting portion of the spring. Arroyo up.

Arroyo flies out to CF.

Stubbs up.

03-22-2010, 04:43 PM
You guys should just be happy to be able to watch today. I had to travel out of town for business and the hotel doesn't have MLB Tv

membengal

Stubbs grounds out to 3b, very close play at first. Stubbs really can motor.

Tulo doubles to start the 4th.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:48 PM
Bob C. "Well, if the Reds are winning, the fans will come to the games". Glad to hear him say that and not the opposite.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:48 PM
Ground out to O-Cab.

One down, runner still on second.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:50 PM
Arroyo has that good 73 mph yakker going today.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:50 PM
Sweet, Tulo thrown out trying to steal 3b. Two down.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:50 PM
Nice throw by Razor to throw out a stealing Tulo @ 3B. Perfect throw!

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:51 PM
Fly ball to CF from Mora ends the inning.

2-1 Rockies middle of 4.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:51 PM
Bob C. on his initial reaction when the front office approached him about signing Chapman: "I was horrified (at the amount of money), but sometimes you have to be bold". He went on to say how thoroughly the scounts and company researched and studied and they really felt it was a good risk to take.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:53 PM
Chapman warming up. Looks like he will come in for the 6th.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:54 PM
Votto, Phillips, Rolen, and hopefully more up for Cincy in the 4th.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:54 PM
Didn't realize that this is the first FSO game w/ Chapman. They're showing him stretching and really pimping it (his outing today) and him pretty hard.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:55 PM
Great at-bat from Votto, draws a walk to start the inning.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:55 PM
Votto does really well just throwing his bat , defensively, at the ball to foul it off when he has 2 strikes on him. I suppose all good hitters do this, but it just struck me watching him do that to draw a walk just now.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:56 PM
Thom B and Brantley droning on about Android phones.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:56 PM
Ick. Votto picked off first by the catcher Olivo.

HeatherC1212
03-22-2010, 04:57 PM
Joey may not be hitting much but he has been drawing quite a few walks.

ARGH, I jinxed him! :bang:

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:57 PM
Ugh. Olivio, not to be outdone by Razor Ramon, throws an absolute seed perfectly to pick Votto off @ 1B.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:57 PM
Phillips still up, now one out.

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:57 PM
Phillips Ks. But fell to his knees swinging, so, that's macho, right?

Two down.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:58 PM
My theory is that they want Chapman to get on the mound, so they're trying to expedite things. :)

membengal
03-22-2010, 04:58 PM
Rolen flies out to RF.

2-1 Rockies after 4.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 04:58 PM
Dusty to be on the broadcast when they come back from pimping MLB2k10.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:01 PM
On the HR just now, Dusty, "Oohh-wee!'.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:01 PM
My least favorite in-game feature, talking to the manager as the game is going on, is underway.

Homerun for some Rockie or another.

3-1 Rockies lead.

Brad Eldreth with the jack.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:02 PM
I know I harp on Dusty as much as some on here, but the dude enjoys the game. He's telling the ball to stay in play on a foul and was cheering on Joey to catch it, etc.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:03 PM
Bronson starting to tire it seems. Gives up a BB.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:03 PM

One on, none out.

SirFelixCat

membengal

De La Rosa bunts the runner over, Dusty shouting instructions that someone needed to cover third.

One out, runner on second.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:08 PM
Yup, BA is tiring. His breaking ball isn't nearly as sharp and walks another batter.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:09 PM
Arroyo walks Fowler, and Dusty asks Brian Price to go out and talk to Arroyo.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:09 PM
1st and 2nd, 1 out. Price instructed to head out to the mound by Dusty.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:10 PM
They have decided to finally leave Dusty alone to manage the game.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:13 PM

3-1 Rockies middle of 5.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:14 PM
Good job by BA to finish out the inning and not force Dusty to bring in someone just to finish the inning, so that Chapman comes in at the beginning of an inning.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:15 PM

Bruce, Gomes, Ramon and a pinch-hitter for Arroyo if it gets that far.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:16 PM
BA's final line: 5IP 4H, 3ER, 3BB (2 in the last inning when tiring), 4K, 2HR allowed.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:16 PM
Bruce, Gomes, Ramon and a pinch-hitter for Arroyo if it gets that far.

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:18 PM
Gomes Ks. De La Rosa dealing.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:18 PM
Reds seem to be very much in a hurry to get Chapman to the mound. Gomes whiffs on 3 straight pitches and was nowhere near the curve for the K.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:18 PM
Razor, trying to give him a little more time to warm up, doubles into RCF.

Razor = team player!

membengal
03-22-2010, 05:18 PM
Ramon doubles to deep right center.

Two outs, one on.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 05:19 PM
Razor lifted for a PR'er.

Frazier up to bat and ooh's and ahhh's welcome him to the plate from my house (ie. me).

And he promptly goes down on 3 pitches. De La Rosa making the Reds not look great. 2 hits thru 5.

But, wait for it....Stop!

It's Chapman-time!

Showing the TuLo AB again. Just not fair. Cowboy and Thom drooling.

I cannot stress enough how filthy that whole sequence was to Tulowitzki. He had NO chance. None. And it impacted the batters who came after him, who tried to get on Chapman early, leading to the easy inning.

This might be his last batter if he can't get him out. Don't want him throwing 40+ pitches in an inning.

I'm actually glad he got lit up, as long as he's not injured.

This makes it much easier to send him to the minors, and if he's as mature as everyone says he is, he should learn a lot more from this outing than if he had a good one.

Miles up for the Reds. fouls the first pitch off, then takes a pitch, 1-1. Swing and misses on a changeup, 1-2. Corpus (?) is the pitcher #60, if that tells you anything. 2-2 now on Miles...weak grounder, 6-3 ground out. 1-16 now he is (I think).

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 06:04 PM

Vlad the impaler up and tries to drive a stake thru the ball, but instead, swings over an off-speed pitch. Then bites on a low and outside slider, then on the 3rd pitch, watches it coast over the black on the outside corner. That's that. Thru 7, 7-1 NOT Reds.

SirFelixCat

And now Baez gives up a hard double into the RCF gap. Triple, HR, Double.

And no one is warming up. Cowboy says, "Baez might need to come up w/ another pitch today"

And now, a hard shot up off the wall down the line in RF. Another double. The ball was hit so hard that the runner didn't go, so he only advanced to 3rd. 2nd and 3rd, 1 out.

SirFelixCat
03-22-2010, 06:17 PM
