Nix starting instead of Dickerson just doesn't make sense to me.

Tossing Nix a bone. He started on opening day, but not since. The guy's only gotten 5 ab's. He's hardly a detriment to the club, solid power, solid defense...hitting problems otherwise just like the other lf guys. And it's not exactly like the other LF candidates are tearing things up either.

Nix, Dickerson, Gomes.....like reds44 said, LF is a problem.

Reds Fanatic
04-12-2010, 06:24 PM
According to Fay Nix is starting based on history against Nolasco. I guess Nix is 2 for 5 against Noalsco and Gomes has struggled against him in the past.

_Sir_Charles_
04-12-2010, 06:28 PM
From earlier today....

Cubs beat the Brewers 9-5 (Baker, Nady, Ramirez & Braun all went deep)
Cards beating the Astros 5-0 (Wandy lasted 4 surrendering 4, Wainwright coasting, Poo Holes #5)

I knew the Astros were going to be bad...but wow. 0-6 on a 6 game homestand. They've scored a total of 13 runs in almost 7 games now. And surrendered 42. I'd say the Pirates are safe from ending in the cellar.

MLB TV just did a nice piece on Leake while waiting for the rain.

Everyone sang his praises. Gammons said he should be a solid #3 starter. Magraine talked about how strong the Reds rotation is, and didn't even mention Harang.

It's a bit subtle but when Cueto follows thru and then falls slightly off to the 1st base side he's fine, his pitches hit their mark. When he fails to follow thru all the way his ball tends run back over the plate (fastball, slider away) or further off the plate (changeups away) depending on the pitch. he's just leaving pitches out over the plate too much and/or racking up alot of balls. They don't swing at the changes because they are off the plate and his fastballs and sliders hang up/run back to the hitter and right over the plate. SO they wait for him to get into trouble and wait for that pitch to come back to them.

Very nice job by Cueto. Didn't have his best stuff obviously, but played pretty good damage control to get 5 innings in.

No problem with his pitch count. He didn't pitch winter ball, and is rested. He's never been pitch efficient, so he's gonna have to get used to throwing 10-15 more pitches to get another inning in.

That was all Dickerson's fault.

Even if it's not a hit an run, he has to know that the double steal was on. That means protect the plate with two strikes. That pitch was definitely a strike, and at least way to close to take, even without the double steal on.

He has to swing at that. Just an awful decision by Dickerson.
