redreporter Players not in #Reds lineup and how they fared against Duke: Votto (.625/.667/.938), Rolen (.438/.444/.750), Hernandez (.571/.625/.571)

facepalm.

Votto looked slow at the plate in the Florida series, a night off in the rain is not the worst idea I ever heard, nor giving Rolen a breather either.

Too early to get worked up, frankly. And some of these guys do need at-bats.

It may get rained out in any event.

Apparently Votto's back is hurting and he is ill, and Rolen is also ill. Both might be able to PH, but that's why they aren't in the lineup.

Still doesn't explain Cairo batting 5th.

The forecast is not good tonight which may not be a bad thing with this lineup Dusty came up with:

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before 1am, then a slight chance of showers between 1am and 2am. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 40. West northwest wind between 13 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

“It’s different because we don’t have much choice,” Baker said. “We’ve got some sick guys here. You know Joey wants to face (Zach) Duke tonight with the numbers he has. Scott Rolen has numbers against Duke also.”

Are they available off the bench?

“I hope so,” Baker said.

They better have ate at the same Cuban deli in Miami.

Also if you can pinch hit.... you can play. This isn't football or soccer.

Understandbly these players are human, its a long season, but there are thousands of Americans that can't take a sick day. Most of which aren't getting paid like Votto or Rolen.

It's not about making them "earn" their money, it's about maximizing value over the course of the season. If they're sick, they shouldn't play. Get some meds in the training room and when we need you, whoever's not puking come on up and grab a bat.

I'd prefer they just left the locker room entirely. No sense in spreading the germs around the dugout or the training room for that matter.

It's not an earn your money thing with me necessarily. I just don't like Dusty's style. Only one player has played every inning this year and the Reds are just now starting their 4th series.

He was flat out guessing on strike 2....he started his swing as Duke was releasing the ball.

That silly leg kick needs to go and allow himself a good solid base.

Where's the hitting coach? Bruce looks like a high schooler out there.

He guesses a lot. I haven't looked at his career splits, but the visual test to me is he shouldn't hit against lefties. Just throws his bat out there and if bat finds ball, it might find grass in the outfield.

This team can't be THAT bad. Can it? Seems like pretty close to worst case scenerio to me (besides .500 record).
