View Full Version : 5-3-10 Home cookin' Reds v Mets

_Sir_Charles_
05-03-2010, 04:26 PM
Lineup courtesy of Fay:

The Reds are going with a heavily right-handed lineup agianst Oliver Perez and the Mets tonight:

Drew Stubbs 8
Brandon Phillips 4
Joey Votto 3
Scott Rolen 5
Jonny Gomes 7
Orlando Cabrera 6
Chris Heisey 9
Ramon Hernandez 2
Mike Leake 1

This, of course, will be Heisey big league debut. Oddly, he hit left-handers much better than right-handers at Louisville before his callup. Pretty small sample size, though.

Stubbs!!! Home run!!

You almost don't want to see that, as it will continue to self-justify his overswinging ways.

It's like your power forward hitting his 1st 3 pointer of the game, when he's a 20% career shooter. Get down low where your bread and butter are, and quit trying to be someone you're not.

_Sir_Charles_
05-03-2010, 07:29 PM
I don't get all the grumbling about Stubbs at this point. He may have only had 1 hit in the St. Louis series, but he still smoked the ball. And he hit well in the previous series in Houston. It's not like there are better options. Stick him in there everyday and give him time to adjust.

The pitchers have adjusted to him, now it's time to give him time to re-adjust.

_Sir_Charles_
05-03-2010, 07:30 PM
And with that...he misplays a ball in center. Well, I'm a good luck charm. *sigh*

Heisey's 0 for 5? who would have thought it? after all his 307/430/747 line in AAA screamed 'All Star' !

p.s. - Bruce didn't start vs Perez. I'm ok with that. but why is Bruce out of the game when Heisey & Gomes still are playing? I am looking forward to 2011.

Francisco needs to take some walks before he's ready to come back. Dorn on the other hand is intriguing. They'd have to clear 40 man room for him though.

Great performance by Leake he really does have command of all his pitches, with a little help from the umpire too. Ron Darling went on and on about Leake during the broadcast. Darling stated he was really impressed with his poise and by the way he operated on the mound.

Leake really did look good. This was our first time seeing him pitch and we were very impressed. I wasn't a fan of the strike zone to start with, but the ump was consistent throughout pretty much the whole game. Leake worked with it.

Glad to see Massett get the win. He pitched superbly too. Really, the whole staff did overall.

I agree about Cabrera. Ugh. I've been to two games and in each game he had two times he didn't get to balls that I'm sure Janish would have. He really brings nothing to the time. My daughter suspects that Janish is locked in a trunk somewhere deep inside GABP. I think he's in the Witness Protection Program. Regardless, the club needs to send a search party out for him and he needs to get some playing time. Particularly, as someone else noted, when Leake pitches. If we want the ball on the ground, instead of in the air where Mother Nature can fly them out of the field, then we need a shortstop who can get to balls.

Will it ever be possible for Brandon Phillips to just hit the ball and not try to crush it? His AB in extra innings was so utterly predictable, a might swing right through the air. Brandon, just a base knock there, buddy. Don't make an out and let the guys behind you knock the runs in.

That was a fun game.

Orlando Cabrera must hate Mike Leake though. In his last start there were two balls he should have had that went for hits against Leake and then last night after Stubbs error there was the ground ball that he should have at least knocked down that drove in Davis. Then of course the throw from Hernandez.

I'm not saying he's not giving the effort, I just think it's pretty clear Father Time has grabbed a hold of his legs.
