No Hanigan...but more importantly...no Janish. I really see a need for him with the groundballing Leake on the bump.

There's just a sense of confidence with Leake. "I'm going to throw my stuff and whatever happens, happens." Hardly dominant, just quite effective.

Yep. I still find it kind of incredible that there was so much debate on who should've made the club between Leake, Chapman & Wood. Control alone is the difference maker IMO.

Cubs 7th:

Fukudome grounds out right to Phillips.
Lee lines to a leaping Votto at 1st. Great catch.
Byrd doubles to the right-centerfield gap.
Ramirez singles on a slow roller to Rolen at third. Byrd to third.
Wild pitch by Leake, Byrd scores, Ramirez to second.
Colvin hits a line drive HR down the RF line.
Castro grounds out to Cabrerra.

Leake now at 91 pitches.

Reds 2, Cubs 3 after six and a half.

You want to pull your starter who has been dominant through his first 85 pitches because he gave up a double and dribbler and is facing an opposite-handed rookie? Harsh.

I wasn't even thinking about them taking him out, but they stung 3 balls off of him that inning. The ball that Votto caught was a liner, Byrd's double up he gap and the HR. They need to watch really close from here out.

And Colvin's HR was a on a change up at the knees. He was throwing poorly -- just getting hit. That dribbler gets hit a little harder (or rolls foul) and he's likely out of the inning.

Watching Leake this season, he seems to lose a bit when he gets deep into the ballgame. Just my observation, others may disagree.

In that spot, against the lefty, I would have gone with Rhodes, Masset, Coco.

Particularly given Leake's relative inexperience.

Still, not a tragedy, maybe Reds can come back.

Hernandez doubles so maybe they are coming back.

It's moot now, but if Leake gets the bunt down, he stays in the game most likely. Pinch running for Leake on second is a smart move, but a residual effect of the bad bunt and the bad decision not to pinch run for RH. I think Dusty really wanted to keep Leake in the game.

Not pinch running for RH was really the only dumb thing in that inning, but it was a big dumb thing, and if not for Votto, would have cost the Reds a possible win.
