Ohlendorf is apparently still coming back from injury too, so if the guys can be just a little bit patient, they can run his pitch count up too high and get to the (probably very tired) Pirates bullpen. I like our chances during this series knowing that the guys will be playing with chips on their shoulders from getting swept in the last series.

Bold Prediction-If anyone is on base in front of Joey at any point during the game, he'll be intentionally walked by the Pirates. I hope I'm wrong but Joey seems to feast on Pirates pitching and they have to know that too. Hopefully Scott breaks his mini-hitting slump tonight. :)

I wouldn't have minded riding the hot bat in Gomes. Seems like whenever someone gets hot, he gets a day off. Happened to Bruce not long ago too. So I guess Janish need to hope Cabrera gets hot. :D

Nope. Gomes has the helmet on...

Righty or lefty...he's swinging a GREAT bat right now. Heisey still hasn't gotten a hit...against a righty or lefty. I'll take the hot bat.

Reds 9th:

Stubbs grounds out to third. Close.
Hanigan also grounds out to third.
Gomes, pinch hitting for Rhodes, rockets another one off LaRoches glove, single.
Cabrerra lines a double down the left field line, Gomes tries to score, called out. Replay shows tag after foot touched the plate.

Reds up 2 to 1 going to Cordero time.

Easy call with the naked eye on a non high def set with a wide view. Foot in a full half second before the tag, just a terrible, terrible call. And the ump was in perfect position. No excuses.

Did Doumit's tag ever touch Gomes? Clearly Jonny's foot pushed Doumit's on to the plate, but I don't think the swipe tag made contact. Let's hope that run doesn't matter.

Cordero in to pitch for the Redlegs.
Jones grounds out to Phillips. One down.
Doumit walks on a full count pitch in the dirt.
Milledge walks on a full count pitch way outside. Ouch.
Clement bounces into a 3-6 fielders choice. Runners at the corners, two outs.
Cedeno grounds out to Phillips-Cabrerra.

Puffy Pig was right. Codero might yet send me to intensive care with his version of "shutting the door," but he gets the job done.

17-15 with a good chance to sweep this series sounds good to me. I still can't figure out why the Pirates don't give anyone fits like the Reds. Yes, they have left handed pitching, but other teams simply maul them while we have to pick and fight for two runs. Makes no sense. Anyway, a good night in RedsLand.

In baseball 5 over against a team in 33 games is borderline owning them. Just think, the difference between average and elite is one game every couple of weeks. The gap between the awful (Pirates) and not quite as bad (Reds) is even smaller.

Didn't someone post earlier tonight that the Reds were 13-5 against the Pirates last year though? It sounds like they figured some things out last year and the Reds could easily match that same record this year (currently 1-4 with a bunch of games to go). I'm not too worried and hey, even a one run win is still a win which I'll gladly take over a division rival any day of the week. :D

Regardless, it should be better considering how poor they've been. No matter, the past is the past and with my wife being from Pittsburgh, these games are very important to me :).

Anyway, good form, Reds. Let's sweep.
