Kingspoint made a comment about how good the starting pitching has been over the last 16 games, so I thought I'd document it:

Harang, Bailey and Cueto have turned the corner!

There are naysayers who talk about how bad the Pirates offense is, but the fact remains Bailey and Cueto pounded the strike zone. That was a huge change for them both. They looked like different pitchers. They have the stuff to be able to live in the strike zone and get people out. And maybe that's what they both learned. Could be a huge confidence builder for them both that will pay big dividends the rest of the season.

This is the staff we all hoped to see!

Combined starters e.r.a. in those 16 games is 3.11.

If you remove Bailey's bad game on May 7th, the e.r.a. drops to 2.62 and they've averaged 7 IP per start.

Let's not jump to conclusions too soon. There's an old saying in baseball about "never get to high, never get to low." Bailey still has more to prove, Cueto and Harang appear to be much closer to shutting up the nay-sayers though. Stepping up for 2 of 3 of their next starts, then I think we can say they have turned the corner. I can easily see Cueto rollin' for a majority of the remaining season though, everyone forgets he should have made the all-star team last season.
