Cabrera 6
Phillips 4
Votto 3
Gomes 7
Heisey 8
Bruce 9
Hanigan 2
Janish 5
Bailey 1

vs. LHP Manny Parra

I'm not sure what to think. It's certainly interesting for an off-day lineup (a day where some players get a day off, not the team)

Also, it's our 1st day game in 1st place.

Keep in mind it's radio only. Start time 12:35

Heisey bats 5th- MAYBE NOT

That lineup was from Sheldon and was then posted by Fay.

But Jamie Ramsey's lineups are actually pictures of the lineups posted in the clubhouse. The picture today has Heisey leading off and OCab 5th, switching them.

W/ another day game after a night game on Thursday, I'm guessing we're going to see some more "resting of starters" this week. I wouldn't mind seeing Janish get the nod at SS tomorrow to give Ocab a day off and allow Janish a chance at back to back games and maybe get in some consitant at bats over a couple of days. Perhaps you could say the same regarding Bruce/Heisey.

I always look at competition as a way to get guys to perform their best. I like the idea of reminding stubbs that he still has to play well in order to start everyday in CF. Not saying that he has played bad as of late, but letting a young guy who is fully capable of playing through a wierd schedule (like we have today) sit back and watch someone play the spot he has "locked up" is always a good thing.

Seriously though, what are most people's opinions on Brantly, outside of the multiple food references and general corniness? Seems like he offers up pretty good insight into the mechanics of the game, ie telling us the Cueto is pulling off towards 1st and that is when his fastball gets high and flat a couple of starts ago, and telling us when its better. He mentioned something about something he saw wrong w/ a particular batter the other day, perhaps Votto.

I'm not savy enough to know how accurate these observations are, but rather than just saying that a player is struggling, he's often able to point to a specific issue w/ the player at the time that is different than his normal self.

I think he does the analysis thing better on TV than radio for the most part. He's awful at play by play. I was in my car on Sunday and there was a fly ball that Bruce and Stubbs went after and almost collided and Brantley didn't say whether it was an out or not. Couldn't disagree more. Unless he's injured or getting shelled, the starter needs to bat for himself in the bottom of the 4th.

The more I think about it, the more I don't know that I agree with myself. I was really in the moment of trying to score the tying run with one out and runners at 2nd and 3rd......Just mindless rable of a possible strategy. Would have been nice to see a risk though.

He got looser after the first, like a lot of power pitchers. He spotted his fastball much better from the second inning on. They got no good swings at him after the three hits in the first, frankly. One hit only in the second through seventh for Bailey. It was dominant.

Maybe, maybe not. But I don't see how a strikeout of Fielder and a poke past the 1B on a ball out of the zone is any indication either way.

The "cost" of the single shouldn't matter in assessing the performance of the pitcher.

This inning was a grounder to SS that should have been an out, but Escobar beat the throw. Lincoln was careful with Braun as he should have been. DRH ruined Fielder, and then McGehee hits a ball outside and at the shins to RF. Sometimes the breaks don't go your way.
