Would Dusty consider batting Micah Owings as the DH? The Reds do play 9 games this season in AL parks (Cleveland, Oakland, and Seattle).

He is a .291 career batter with a slugging percentage of .542. 9 homeruns in 179 AB's.

Gomes or Nix is 100 times better choice than Owings...

I have a DH question for you all, can a DH hitter come into to a game and play the field, or is he stuck at DH?

Owings is a good hitting pitcher, but we have better options to DH

Owings is a "good" hitting pitcher.

He can I believe, but if you do that, you lose your DH for the game and the pitcher has to bat, I think in the position in the order that the spot the DH filled.

So, if, say Gomes was the DH, and the left fielder got hurt and there was nobody else on the bench for some reason, Gomes would move to left and the pitcher would have to bat in the spot that the original left fielder was in. I think that's the rule, and that's why you never see it happen.

If Owings batted on a regular basis, his holes would be exposed. Could he adjust? Maybe. Maybe not.

I think that's the rule, and that's why you never see it happen. It happened just recently. In May 11's Oakland/Texas 13-inning game, Oakland's DH went into left field and the pitcher appeared in the batting order. Oakland reliever Tyson Ross batted and struck out.

He also hasn't looked good at all at the plate this year. Does he have a hit yet?

I'd take Gomes or Nix any day over Owings.

Ownings is a good hitter for pitcher, but if you consider that 2 teams have thought he had more value as a 5th starter/swingman, it gives a pretty good indication that he probably was not going to be that good of a hitter
