Please sticky this for a few days!

For those that are interested, here are the leagues starting up (that I know of) and some basic stuff for them. Just PM the Commish of the league you are interested in and they should get the ball rolling. If I left any leagues off of the list, please add them on. Otherwise, just use this for PM'ing the folks running the leagues and posting other leagues. We can keep it organized a little easier that way. Thanks!

SC Reds Fans : Head-to-Head League with a Live Draft. Owners will decide scoring

Larkin Fan : Either H2H or Rotisserie with a Live Draft.

cincinnati chili : Rotisserie with non-traditional scoring and a possible live draft. Also, if a small league, it may be NL only.

EmtyRedsFan : Not sure on details...PM him for them.

Thanks. Here are the 4x4 categories and details:

Batters:
-On base%
-Walks
-Hits
-Total Bases

Pitchers:
-Strikeout/Walk Ratio
-innings pitched
-home runs allowed
-strikeouts

-9 active hitters (c, 1b, 2b, ss, 3b, cf, of, of, utility)
-9 active pitchers (5 starters, 4 relievers)
-size of bench negotiable (keep in mind. bigger bench = longer draft)

I would suggest an NL only league unless we get more than 10 people

Draft date/time negotiable, but the sooner the better.

-If there's a lack of interest in this format, I will gladly jump to one of the other leagues mentioned above (but if so, would prefer a format that isn't overly geared toward "saves" or "stolen bases" like so many fantasy and roto leagues)

What is everyone's preference for the draft day/time. Any day of the week is fine with me, but I would prefer it to be an evening draft. (6:00 PM- 9:00 PM; latest that it can be done)

Larkin, the 6-9 is by far my choice, work will not let any other ones happen. I'd rather do it Sunday-Thursday, things tend to be more unpredictable on weekends.

Also, doing the draft the second to third week of March would be good.

Sabo Fan

The time frame KYRedsFan suggested works for me as well. However, during the week of March 11th I won't have access to a computer, so I'd prefer that, if possible, the draft not be that week. If there are no other options, I may be able to make other arrangements to get Internet access, but I'm not sure.

Larkin Fan, the best time for me is a weeknight as well, anytime after 7:30pm EST. One thing I wanted to mention is that the 6-9 timeframe that Yahoo gives (evening) is PST, so add three hours to whatever time you set it up for. That means that you actually could look in the late afternoon drafts as well for a time. I think the last time they give for late afternoon is 5:30-6:00, which is actually 8:30-9:00 EST. Just thought I would let you know. Thanks for taking care of this.

Just a thought for any leagues who really have a problem coordinating a time for everyone to make a live draft. I once played in a league where we drafted over a period of several weeks. The number one pick is made and sent via e-mail to everyone in the league. Then the number two pick can be made and sent. From there it just continues. At times you will hit a slowdown where the next person to pick doesn't check the e-mail for a little while but with plenty of time before the season starts it wouldn't be a big deal. Sometimes there would be several picks made in one day and others there might be a day delay. As you get closer to the season you can guage if the draft is going to be completed on time and start making arrangements for everyone to get online at some point to finish up whatever rounds you need to finish. With this kind of draft you have time to think over your next pick without everyone asking if you are still there or worrying about your connection failing.
Another advantage to this is you are not tied to the computer for three, four, five hours at once, all you have to do is check your e-mail a little more frequently and keep up with who has been taken and how many picks until your turn.

cincinnati chili
02-20-2003, 02:37 PM
Hollcat: I've had terrible experiences with those leagues. Someone goes out of town or doesn't check his/her email and then everyone has to wait for a whole day. That was the case with sandbox.

If people can't be present for this live draft, they have the option of pre-ranking.

KYRedsFan
02-20-2003, 02:41 PM
Yeah, I've usually experienced more headaches coordinating a slow draft vs. a live draft. Pre-ranking is a fairly good cure for those not at the draft.

If Yahoo keeps it like it was last year, a player must start 15 games at a position to be eligible for it. Thus, last year, Dunn became eligible for 1B during the season as well as Boone became eligible for SS. So after 16 starts, Larson should be eligible at 3B, and Boone will be eligible at 2B.

Here is the official info from Yahoo......

How is position eligibility established?

At the beginning of the Fantasy Baseball season, Yahoo! Sports placed all players into positions based on information from official rosters. Some players appear in multiple position lists and are eligible to fill any of those positions.

If a position player makes 15 appearances at a new position during the season, he will become eligible to play that position in Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball.

Pitchers need to make three starts to become eligible as a starter, and five relief appearances to qualify as a reliever.

Not meant as a put down at all. Just a funny anomaly. Could be a very good team. There's a general rule in mixed leagues that it's nice to have mostly NL pitchers and AL batters. The former obviously don't have to face a DH except in rare interleague. But that's a rule of thumb, not a requirement.

How does it work online?

How do the picks (order) get assigned?

Is it live on screen? Like a netmeeting app, with realtime updates?

It does work pretty much like a netmeeting. You all have a little "applet" that comes up with team listings, player listings, etc. When it is your turn to pick it highlights your team and you can click on a player and then draft to draft them. It basically updates after every move that is made, i.e. pick or I think you can manually refresh as well. The draft order is randomly assigned unless the commish of the league assigns your draft position by when you entered the league, favoritism;) , etc.

Does anyone have a private, 10- team head to head or roto league on Yahoo that I could join? I'm already in a 14 team Redszone league (Larkin Fan's), and have a 10 team league at work. I want to join a 10 team league to "practice" drafting for my league at work, but will remain very active in the league as well. All public leagues that I have tried to join are setup with 12 and 14 team leagues, and I am looking for a league with a max of 10. Seems the only way to do this is to find a private league. Any help would be appreciated, and I promise to remain active in the league. Thanks.

I can set up another league with the specs that you're looking for. I had a few people who wanted a roto league (I personally prefer to play that way). Just let me know and I'll see what I can work up.

The 14 team leagues are pretty cool. When you get down to the end it's challenging to figure out who to draft, because all of your players aren't the cream of the crop. In the end, it all comes down to who's capable of building the best team.

Larkin Fan,
I am looking forward to the 14 team league draft tonight. Should be plenty interesting to see what happens after the first 10 rounds or so. I'm looking forward to the challenge. As you can see I set up another league. I am going to change it to roto instead of head to head, as I think that will be fun as well. Like I said, anyone is welcome to join.

Lol. Pretty funny, Larkin Fan. I have March 3rd open to draft, if that's when your is. Let me know the specs of your league and I'll see if I can fit it in. You can have a max of 4 teams, and with the private league I just setup I'm only in 3. Looking for a March 3rd draft time because my wife is out of town that day ;)

Need at least 6 more members for my new league. I think I've contacted everyone that was interested in joining the leagues. If I haven't, shoot me a PM and let me know and I'll get you the info. Anyone else that wants to join, please do the same.

I was, but didn't want to do a live draft. Didn't see an auto one started this year.

TB got on one, I believe.

TC,

You can still play even if you don't want to participate in the live draft. You can just pre-rank your players and the computer will do the work for you.

Anyone that wants to sign up can go ahead and sign up with the info Red Leader posted. All I ask is that one spot is saved for mckenzie. She wanted to play and accidentally got excluded from the other league, so she is guaranteed a spot in this league. Just wanted to let you all know that. But like I said earlier, we still need more players so feel free to join up! PM me with any questions.

O.K. I'm in 94797.

I've never done rotisserie. I'm a rookie, but I picked up head to head easy enough.

I was trying to figure out the difference at a glance.

In rotisserie, you seem to be competing against all the teams at any one time. You seem to be ranked against all others in each stat.

In head-to-head, you're competing against whatever team you're competing with that week.

Do I sort of have that right?

(Don't worry, I'm not a pain in the arse to play with. Once I get the general idea .... I'm good to go!)

Larkin Fan

TC, Rotisserie works on a points system. You get points for each individual stat. It's kind of hard to explain, so I'll post this explanation from Yahoo's website:

"In a Rotisserie League, fantasy teams are ranked from first to last in each of several statistical categories. Points are then awarded according to the order of finish in each category, and are totaled to determine an overall score and place.
So, if you are in a 12-team league, the team with the most home runs will receive 12 points, the team with the second most will receive 11 points, etc. In the case of a tie, each team involved receives an average of the total points due -- i.e., in the above example, if two teams were tied for first in homers, each would receive 11.5 points [(12 + 11) / 2 = 11.5].

Therefore, the maximum number of points that a team can earn is equal to the number of scoring categories within a league multiplied by the number of teams in the league. Similarly, the lowest number of points that a team can earn is equal to the number of scoring categories multiplied by one, which is the lowest score that can be achieved in any category.

So, if you were playing in a league with 12 teams and 12 scoring categories, the lowest point total possible is 12 [12 * 1 = 12] and the highest is 144 [12 * 12 = 144].

Rankings within the individual scoring categories (HR, RBI, etc.) are based on the cumulative stats earned by all active players during the season and not on any individual day or game.

Therefore, the overall ranking of your team will rise and fall depending on how it performs relative to the performance of other league members. So, the phenomenon of "losing points" can be explained as your rank falling in one or more of the statistical categories used in your league. "

We had a very good draft in the 14 team league tonight (except for Reds Fan in NYC) who wasn't able to attend, and the auto draft gave him about 15 OF's and no infielders (exaggeration). Should be a competitive league and am looking forward to the drafts in Redszone league 2 (Larkin Fan's) and Redszone League 3 (mine) next week. If you are debating joining a league, I urge you to do it. It's real fun and being in a league with fellow Redszoner's is like being with family. :D  Good luck to all this season. Please post here if you are interested in joining a league and aren't sure what to do to sign up.

Yup, what leader said, still have a great league with spots to fill and a later draft to give you time to do some research and allow some rosters to take shape. PM me if you're interested.

Still have five spots that need filled. Anyone that wants one of them can go ahead and sign up.

Like RedLeader said, we had a great draft tonight. It was a lot of fun and also challenging at the same time. This league was a 14 team league and with 25 player rosters, the stars went fast and it really took a lot of effort to figure out the right players and sleepers to fill the roster. You really had to know your stuff.

Hoping to have some more of you join up. If you haven't ever played before, these are the perfect leagues to get involved in and learn the ropes.

From what I've surmised my starting 8 had a .380 ob% and a .494 slG% last year.

My starters averaged 6.7 K's a game and my relievers 9.6.

Of course they actually have to play the games though.

WOY. Remember, you need to start 9 (one at dh or "ut"). My 9 hitters were .370obp, .485 slg. My pitching stinks.

Here's last years stats of the team I drafted last night

They avg. 133 hits in 473 ab's (.281) (only three players with over 500 ab's. I should have drafted a team doctor to go along with these DL deamons)
avg. 45 BB, 202 total bases and a .351 ob%
overall were terrible

starting pitchers avg 179 inn., 147 K's, 17.6 hr, and a 2.26 K/BB
4 full time starters and Oliver Perez who pitched 90 inn. but should be a full time starter this year.

relief pitchers avg 66 inn., 60 K's, 4.8 hr, and 2.22 k/BB all are middle relievers except Kim.
pitching is decent
