Harang needs to find "it" tonight badly. The Reds could really use a good long appearance by ANYONE to give some arms some rest.

Wasn't it not too long ago that the bullpen got too much rest? Irony

So here we are, nearly 2 full months in and Stubbs is still in Taveras/Patterson country. I wonder how many more times he gets run out there before they make a more final decision.

Until Dickerson gets back apparently. It sure doesn't appear that Heisey is going to get much a chance to supplant him in CF.

Batting 8th, playing great defense, seeing a lot of pitches, stealing bases, driving in big runs, making only 400k. I think he'll have a pretty long leash.

I think most of us would have been ok with this type of defense batting 8th. It was the leadoff spot for Taveras and Cpat that drove everyone crazy

No way. If Patterson was putting up Stubbs numbers, even in the 8th spot, he'd be getting killed on here.

Stubbs gets the prospect pass.

Stubbs gets the prospect pass.

Corey Patterson was making $3mm/year and 3 years older than Stubbs. I mean, at least this year, the Reds are paying league minimum for that level of production.

I'm not so sure that Stubbs has ever received a "pass."

Rightfully so.

Patterson got his too, back in the day.

Throw back night in Cincinnati paying tribute to the first night game 75 years ago. WOY has a great thread in ORG about it.

So here we are, nearly 2 full months in and Stubbs is still in Taveras/Patterson country. I wonder how many more times he gets run out there before they make a more final decision.

He's OPS'd almost .900 against the Pirates in his career, and almost .900 since being demoted to the 7 spot in the order. He's OPS'ing .881 with runners in scoring position, which he is much more likely to see in the 7 hole than the one hole. Even you have conceded that he is a much better hitter down further in the lineup, and has shown that throughout his career.

If I'm still making these SSS excuses a month or two from now, I'll agree that we need to look elsewhere for our CF, but I think it's too early to give up on him. Let's see what he can do from the 7 hole over an extended period of time, no?

Harang is in his walk year. He needed a good start this year. He hasn't had it.

He's allowed 11 homers so far this year and we're not yet at Memorial Day. His ERA is over 6.

In a different situation the Reds would hope that, in the long term, he will make adjustments and get back on track. But for Harang there is no long term as a Red. If he doesn't help the team now, he'll never help them.

I would just cut my losses, deal him for some middling prospect, eat some salary, and let one of the AAA kids have the spot. Harang's future is with another team - maybe in a bigger stadium - and there's no point in continuing to trot him out there.

Ocab seems to be swiping quite a few more bases than I expected. #6 for him already.

I think he's quite a smart player. He doesn't run as fast as Phillips, but he's sure a lot more effective on the bases. The last decade of Freel and Phillips had me longing for an honest to goodness real life good baserunner. Hasn't been one around here in a long time.

Cabrera always seems to be busting it down the line as well. I was a skeptic about him, but he's won me over as a really good move by Jocketty. SS was a huge hole manned by a minor league journeyman at the end of last year. Cabrera was more than just a desperation move IMO. He's a real asset to the team. I'm no longer worried about SS for 2010.

I don't agree. Dusty has been messing around too much in these games with a five run lead. I would use Lincoln, Fisher and if necessary Rhodes to nail this one down.

Herrera has been hit hard of late. Del Rosario is new. Let them pitch in losing ballgames or in games where early relief is needed.

Now it's 7-4. Who will it be?

In a perfect world I would agree but its not a perfect world. How many pitches did Fisher throw yesterday? Probably not a bad idea to rest Rhodes if you can with so many more games before an off day. The kid is in the majors time to find out if he can pitch.

I'm ok with the decision on Harang. You have to hope he can work at least seven with a big lead. He went south pretty quickly, couldn't really expect it.

But now they need to get the close game relievers ready. I'd have Rhodes in the pen.
