Easy answer.

Eric Davis.

He'd hit 3 grand slams in the month.

He'd tied a record for most homeruns through the month of May.

He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated the last week of May.

It was the peak of his career.

And, he was steroid-free.

The 80's were a tough decade for the Reds. But they did give us ED and my favorite Reds pitcher, Mario Soto.

Heck. I paid for a complete trip to San Francisco for a weekend by only using Eric Davis Rookie Cards. I took a couple of dozen of them with me on the trip and paid for the return trip home by selling them at a baseball card show the first week of June in '87. Little did I know at that time, that it would be the pinnacle of value for his cards at the time. But, that's when you want to sell (of anything)...while value is still on the rise.

My best friend lived in the Bay Area then, so I thought I'd take advantage of Eric Davis' good run. Thank you, Eric Davis.
