This now becomes a bigger problem than the problem of having Cairo in the lineup (or batting 2nd). It now becomes a problem of not having JV in the lineup. If we lose him...

Hoepfully the game gets rained out?

How about hopefuly the Reds can handle the most pitiful team in all of MLB without Joey Votto?

About a 50% chance of scattered storms, It won't be a rainout but it could be delayed.

This. I don't agree with the "most pitiful" tag (I've seen too much of the Astros this season), but yes we should be able to handle them without Joey.

Anybody here from Pittsburgh? Are the Pirates really charging full price this year for tickets when Morton pitches??? When is Selig going to put his foot down and tell the Pirates to take the product up a notch? Spend some money and get it going. Run with the big dogs or stay on the porch ... as in MLB will find a franchise to take your place in the NL.

Morton often reminds me of Homer on his worst day x 1 1/2.

I haven't seen the Orioles, so I'd defer to Heather's judgment on them...but Houston IS worse than the Pirates.

I'm a little late on the comment but the Orioles as a whole are NOT a bad team. They're playing like total crap in most games but they've got a nice group of young players there (Weiters, Markakis, Jones, Reimold, Pie, and their young pitchers) mixed with some solid vets (Roberts, Miggy, Millwood) and I expect them to do better as they get Roberts and Pie back from the DL. Brian Roberts makes their offense go and they have really been missing him this year. Hopefully he's able to come back in June (that's when they expect him to come back) and they should get Pie back sometime around that same time. They still have some work to do but they're on the right track. :)

And I'm having issues working on something for my church's website which is the reason I'm late to the thread but it's nice to see the Reds offense come alive tonight. I do wonder what the Cairo haters will have to say after his (so far) 3-4 night, LOL

Yeah, the O's have underperformed a lot but missing Brian and Felix Pie (who was hitting really well for them at the end of last year and the start of this year) has really hurt them. I hope they can do better. Their young pitching has a ton of potential and I adore Matt Weiters. Not at all like I adore Joey but I do love watching him play. :)

Houston has been really hit or miss this year. I hope they miss a lot this weekend, especially Saturday because I'll be at that game and I'd love to be at a game where we blow out the other team. The last game I went to was the Civil Rights game which was MAD intense but still fun. I'd like to be less tense this time though, LOL :p:

Is there any good reason to not bring in Sutton?

I'm glad Phillips thinks he's a tough guy, but he'll do more for the team to take himself out and not risk hurting himself than pushing it in an 8-0 game. Sometimes leadership takes a little humility

Bye-bye shutout. 8-1 Reds.

Del Rosario doing his job -- 4 grounders. Two of 'em just had eyes.

Padres scored 3 in the 7th inning and cut the Cardinals lead to 6-3

And now he's going Cueto style on us -- freaking out and rushing everything.

I like Del Rosario for the most part. He's got great stuff and doesn't waste a lot of time up there.

I read where some people (Cannot remember who) during that 2-1 loss said why not bring in this guy instead of Nick.

I say,.....look at this guy trying NOT to get overly hyped and excited and you want him to pitch in a close game? In the 8th or 9th?

Phillips should have come out. This is a blow out although with this bullpen that can change fast.

He got a bunch of groundballs, some found holes.

3 speeds, 91-2 FB, 78 Slider, 84 change. Probably w'd have kept the ball in the ballpark in the 2-1 loss.

Fisher pitches the 8th for the Reds, and does well. Gives up only a two out single to Church.

After 7 and a half, Reds up 8-1.

Kinda sad. These threads are LOADED when things go poorly...just so people can gripe and complain. Just a bit depressing for someone who can't actually GO to the game or SEE every game. Oh well. Keep it rollin' Redlegs!!! :O)

Threads are longer when the games are CLOSE. Not necessarily when the Reds are doing poorly. This thread is as lively as a thread would be if we were down 8-1 IMO.

Really nice outing from Fisher there. Maybe that's all the bullpen guys need to pitch more consistantly....the threat of being sent away to the minors if they don't stop sucking, LOL

I'd let Fisher finish it out.

Either him or Lincoln.

Anyone have Cedeno's numbers this series?

And this one belongs to the Reds! Masterful outing by Cueto! Votto Jr. has a heck of a game too.

28-20. The Reds...you know, the ones from Cincinnati. 28 WINS...20 losses. Nice

Cueto now 5-1 with a 3.25 earnie.

Too early to talk about Cueto being an All Star?

If he continues to pitch like this, he very well could get his era below 2.75 by early July. That might be good enough.

good teams beat teams like the Pirates when they play them at home. it was very nice to see the Reds take 3 of 4 from them even without Joey the last two games.

i have truly enjoyed Cairo getting so many hits the last two nights. i love it when the 25th man types like Nix & Cairo do well.

I stand amazed at this team. Yes, the Reds were playing the Pirates, but in years past, we would have split. You win big against the bad teams and break even against the good ones. That's a winning combination. And this team is doing that. I'm very optimistic.

Little more to say other than the well-known sentiment that the trade that brought us Scott Rolen and the acquisition of Cabrera were brilliant moves by much maligned GM Walt Jockety (at least on RedsZone). Just looking at his record, Cabrera plays on winning teams and though he may not have the range of others, he's a winner and contributes. Rolen gives you Gold Glove defense and is raking. They're the difference in this team.

Anyway, I haven't been on game threads because I'm in Concord, NC with a mini-computer and typing is hard. Yeah, I'm lazy. You guys are doing a good job so keep up the good work. I'm going to wear my Reds cap all weekend at the track. I had three people where I got it. The Reds are catching on!

This may sound odd or something, but I hope none of the Reds pitchers make the All Star team. Period. I look back at Armstrong. I look back at Volquez. Neither did anything after their appearances. No, I prefer our pitchers stay home, rest and continue to pitch lights out in games that matter. The AS game is a joke anyway. Lots of Cardinals and Yankees and Red Sox. Blah. I'd just as soon watch soccer...:p:

From an email from MLB.com headlined "Youth fueling Division Races":

Meanwhile, Mike Leake -- who skipped the Minors entirely before winning his first four decisions -- and the Reds are poised to challenge St. Louis for NL Central supremacy.

Very sweet.

That's the way it was too. The best teams will normally have the most all stars. If the Reds become consistent contenders they will put more than one on the all star team. But until then we will have to see a pitcher or an everyday player who is having an extraordinary year as being the only Red on the NL team.
