I don't find this to be a great story. I find it to be a puzzling story. Like why on earth would Roncalli, a powerhouse, schedule a game against a team that had never played before? Why would a softball team have a coach that has never seen a softball game before? And why would they show up to play a game (against a powerhouse) without ever bothering to practice?

Because they're all kids that just want to play? High schools have a lot of trouble scheduling games. Both schools probably needed another game, so they played. Extreme mismatches in high school sports, especially girls sports, are going to happen. Funny thing is, the kids are almost always the people that care the least. They just play.
Good stuff. I'm sure everyone involved will never forget that day. Yet again, a bunch of kids shows us that sometimes winning a game just doesn't matter all that much.

I think it's a great story because the offer to forfeit wasn't made with pity, but rather with a spirit of helping and teaching. There was a real sense of community that sports, at its best, creates.

What a contrast to the story last year of the 100-0 drubbing in HS basketball.
