He even nibbles against the opposing pitcher. The guy is barely holding on to his career as a starter. Nibble, nibble, nibble ... extremely hittable when he finally does come in the zone ... not a good recipe.

I'm not sure he's nibbling...he just plain doesn't know where the slider is going today. But your right, he's afraid to throw the fastball for a strike. He did throw a meatball to Dunner on the first pitch, but I think that was because he was 99% sure Dunn wouldn't swing.

Wow, I thought I was being harsh. Can't release him with what he's getting paid, and he's still probably the best option the team has as the No. 5 starter, but there is no question he is the weak link of the rotation. I'm not sure a guy like Matt Maloney would be any better though. Heck, couldn't be much worse though. (I'm talking Harang of 2009-10.)

Aw c'mon, he's not TRYING to lose. Right now, I'd say he's a servicable 5th starter...I think he can improve a little on that. I think he goes in a trading deadline deal for sure, but I'd like to see him get SOME return. But yeah, he definitely shouldn't be in our ong range plans. We can't afford to pay #2 pitcher rates for our 5th starter. ;)

I don't think Harang is a loser personally, but he lokks totally intimidated by the Nats lineup. 81 pitches in three innings - the bottom of the lineup is hitting under 230 and they own Harang. He is pitching scared. I don't know how else to describe it.

Harang is clearly no longer the stud he was, but he's getting killed with bloops and weak grounders yet again. Sure, he's a had a few balls stung, but I can think of at least 3 hits that were weak contact.

When you have to face that many batters, your pitch count is going to be up there. By my count, he's used 98 pitches on 25 batters. That's 3.9 P/PA -- not ideal, but not exactly horrible or evidence that he's avoiding guys.

And of course, his slider hasn't been right all year -- as that wild pitch showed.

Hernandez had not given up more than 5 hits to any team in a home start this year. Thru 5 he has given up 7. The Reds bats aren't lost I don't think. They are actually handling Hernandez quite well.

Drew Stubbs - in his last 2 at bats - has seen 12 pitches. He has taken all 12 pitches. I don't think he is seeing the ball very well from Hernandez. Yea, if Gameday is to be believed, this is one of the worst umps in the history of baseball. Inside the black on the outside corner is a ball and a foot outside is a strike. On one at bat (Bruce) Livan missed inside AND outside and both were called strikes. :dunno:

Many times, the umps will overturn an ump whose call it is, if he was blocked, not positioned well, or just didn't get as good a look as another ump. So they are wrong about that.
