Not to jinx Leake, but I've been looking forward to seeing what he can do in a large ballpark. He's not going to strike out many batters. It'll be interesting to see if the balls find space or if he is actually harder to score upon in larger confines. Personally, I hope he goes after hitters in the zone tonight and turns this ship around!

I'm glad Gomes is back in there.

Really? I think he could use a break. He's been rough in the field. I think they should go back to a straight platoon, Nix is a much better fielder and he's pretty decent against righties. Either that or give Heisey a start.

i am suprised Nix or Heisey isn't starting today. maybe we'll see both of them during the Sunday special.

the team has lost 4 out of 5 games. i'm actually a little bit disappointed Dusty is running the same lineup out there again. i would have shaken things up just a bit.

Giving up a few hits (6 through 4), but 3k's and no walks. His stuff looks good, not great tonight. 58 pitches....I'd guess he'll get a solid 6 if not 7 innings tonight.

More than any Red I can recall, Leake throws more balls that look like meatballs, only to have the batter flailing as the balls zigs or zags.

I can't stand Chris Welsh. The guy thinks he knows the ONLY way to play the game.

What was he saying that you disagree with?

Classy act by Phillips to take the bean there. I respect him more for that.

I wonder if Dusty had a talk with him in the dugout in between innings?

I got no problem with BP doing a chest or fist pump after beating a throw to score a run.

Nats just got their pride hurt.

Exactly. It's baseball. These stupid unwritten rules get old.

The guy showed emotion after a play. It's no different than K-Rod freaking out or pointing to the sky after every save.

Phillips getting excited was perfectly fine on that play. Just because he ran over the catcher doesn't mean he should just walk back to the dugout.

Reds 9th:

Batista still pitching for Nats.
Nix, pinch htting for Rhodes, flies out to left.
Cabrera grounds out to third.
Phillips gets hit in the arm on the first pitch by Batista. Joe West tosses Batista immediatly. Marty can't understand the beaning, but it was the post-collision chest thump that earned that one.

Doug Slaten in to pitch after the Batista ejection.
Votto lines a single up the middle.
Rolen pops out to Dunn down the line.

Reds up 5-1.

Nationals 9th:

Francisco Cordero on to pitch the 9th.
Willingham skies a pop to Bruce.
Bernadina Ks swinging.
Desmond lines a single to left.
Nieves Ks swinging.

And this one belongs to the Reds 5-1! Nice game boys....

Cordero threw 19 pitches in the 9th.

A big 'W' for Leake.

Mike Leake is such a cool dude. His interviews are a hoot because I think half the time, he doesn't really know what to say and the other half, isn't really him saying much except, "Yeah, it's pretty cool", LOL

What was he saying that you disagree with?I disagree that Phillips did anything wrong in that play, including the chest thump. Who cares what the Nats think about it, he does that to say "yea, I'm the teammate that will do whatever it takes to win. You guys with me?"

All this code of the game is nothing more than a wax nose that the other team uses as an excuse to "retaliate," also known as take a cheap shot and show yourself a sore loser because the other team is playing the game hard. Cudos to West for tossing him immediately.

The better response is to play hard-nosed baseball yourself.

Whether or not the code should exist...it does exist. I'd prefer BP not to put himself in harms way from here on out.

Yep. Chest thumping isn't a team sport.

Good thing Desmond barely "got in the way." Phillips was out by about 37 steps.

I was at the game and my wife thought he'd have been out without the interference. The interference, while unintentional, was absolutely clear as day and I knew they'd call Phillips safe. I thought it did slow him down at little bit and would have been a bang bang play, but I was glad for the call.

Holy cow. Phillips barreling over Nieves was something to see live.

Whether or not the code should exist...it does exist. I'd prefer BP not to put himself in harms way from here on out.But a "wax nose" code means that you can't define it, so you can't avoid doing things that break the code until after the fact, when the other team says "you just don't do that in baseball." Like Braden pulling out the "stay off my mound" garbage. That might be his rule, I don't think he codified it until the event happened. Same here. "Oh, chest bump, unprofessional. Bowling over the catcher, good play." Just go slide hard into second on a double play and quit the whining, Nats.
