It worked yesterday, so I'll start it again for luck today. Need a lot of luck with the Sunday special.

Cabrera - SS
Cairo - 3B
Votto - 1B
Phillips - 2B
Bruce - RF
Nix - LF
Stubbs - CF
Miller -C
Arroyo - P

Miggy, Corky and Laynce all at once. Need big days from Bruce and Votto. Maybe Cairo recaptures his magic of a couple weeks ago.

Corky and Cairo pretty expected with Hernandez sure not to play, and Rolen generally not playing a day game after a night game.

Hope Cairo's bat can carry the absence of Rolen today. Not sure, but the last time he filled in for Rolen at 3B was in that Atlanta debacle where he committed a very critical error.

Just noticed that this kid pitching for the Nats (Stammen) is from up around my neck of the woods - Coldwater, Ohio.

He's never faced the Reds till today. He's winless since beating Colorado on April 19. The right-hander did not get a decision for a third straight start last Tuesday night, when he gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings of an 8-7 loss to Houston.

Stammen is actually a graduate of the University of Dayton. I wish he would represent a little bit better, but he can wait to turn it around until after this start.

I don't know if I would call this a "Sunday Special". There are five starters in the lineup, as well as the fourth OF and a backup INF who was a contender for NL Player Of The Week last week.

RedsZone would have straight-out hated Sparky's lineups in 1975 and Lou's in 1990--both were well-known for giving their subs plenty of playing time.

With 2-3-4 coming up and a fast guy on 2B, why in the world do you make an out on purpose, when a hit scores the runner and there's a decent chance an out will advance the guy to 3B anyways.

It's one thing if you're going up against Lincecum and runs are likely to be scarce. But there's absolutely no reason to give Craig Stamen free outs.

If we were talking about votto bruce phillips rolen or gomes bunting, I could agree with you. But we are talking about cairo. Might as well let him move the runner over in case votto does hit a loing fly ball. Votto is really good but you can't expect him to get a hit every at bat.

Managers who played ball in the 70's when runs were harder to come by and outs were less valuable simply don't understand how the calculus changes in a different run scoring environment.

I wonder how many managers actively seek professional development to hone their craft and stay up on industry trends the way most other professionals do.

I've noticed Bruce is hands happy at the plate. It's alright to move the bat until the pitch comes, but Bruce is doing it up until the pitch is on him. Thus, his hands start in different spots before the swing. This might explain his lack of power and his ugly groundouts to second. Same thing every time at the plate is key just like a windup

Arroyo walked Bernadina on a close pitch that should have been strike 3. Desmond then hit a ball that would have been gone on any other day, but the wind was blowing towards right. Looked like Nix had a chance to catch it, but couldn't bring it in.
