We are watching a mental meltdown by Cueto. When he steps right at the hitter, he's very good. When he flies off the mound towards first place, he's awful. Get it together mentally, Johnny!

WVRedsFan

Cueto is a classic case of a kid who isn't quite ready yet. Mentally, he's just not there yet and may never be. That's sad.

Blitz Dorsey
06-12-2010, 07:46 PM
And he's still doing it. Amazing. They need to take him down to the clubhouse when they get a chance between innings and show him how terrible he looks when he opens up like this towards first base.

Tony Cloninger
06-12-2010, 07:47 PM
I would PH for him.....but of course you have to have someone warming up the bullpen....which amazes me that there is not.

WVRedsFan
06-12-2010, 07:49 PM
It's not the Reds--it's Cueto. If there ever was a head case in baseball, this kid is it. Someone needs to jerk a knot in his tail. He doesn't have the temperament to pitch at this level yet. We've seen it over and over.

Degenerate39

Blitz Dorsey
06-12-2010, 07:50 PM
He was a complete trainwreck that inning flying open towards first base. If Brian Price can't get him straightended out, it's on him. The pitching coach needs to help his guys make adjustments when they have complete mechanical meltdowns.

The pitching coach needs to help his guys make adjustments when they have complete mechanical meltdowns.Trying to read lips did no good there, but I imagine Price was doing just that and Cueto was mad and had no intention of dong anything but throwing harder.

GAC

17 runs over the last 12 innings he's pitched. Not good. Purely a combination of mechanics and mental (concentration) IMO. And once he loses it, he loses it.

He's just raring back and throwing as hard as he can IMO.

Blitz Dorsey
06-12-2010, 08:01 PM
He ends up looking directly at Votto after each pitch he's flying open so much. How has Price/Cueto/Hernandez not made the adjustment yet? I shouldn't know more about this sitting here on my butt watching the game. This is real bad. If Cueto can't make the adjustment himself, his pitching coach or catcher should drill it in his head.

That's fine as long as you finish stepping towards home plate and not first base.

That's not on Gomes. That's on the guy who gave up an RBI double to an AL pitcher, then walked the next two guys to face the #3 guy in the KC batting order.

Cueto's shares most of the blame, but a decent LF gets that ball or at least plays it correctly so three runs don't score.

Blitz Dorsey
06-12-2010, 08:04 PM
Blowing a 4-0 lead against a team like the Royals is almost impossible to do. And the Reds have managed to pull it off in consecutive nights. I wish my happiness wasn't so tied to how well this team does. ;-)

You should finish your delivery in a fielding stance with your shoulders square towards home plate. Every pitching coach drills this into your head (at least the good ones). Cueto is facing first base after every pitch. Watch.
