The Good Guys
Cabrera SS
Cairo 3B
Votto 1B
Gomes LF
Bruce RF
Henandez C

Janish 2B
Sam LeCure P

Not sure about the Rolen/Phillips situation, but Phillips was in the initial lineup.

Probably just a day game after night game type deal for Rolen.

Phillips was taken out due to a knot in his leg, besides he has started every game this year.

Even. And I find it funny Dusty doesn't have Janish at SS. Janish is clearly the superior shortstop.

You're not going to bump Cabrera to second for one game. It would probably do more harm than good.

I've got no problem with that, but why don't they ever do that for Cabrera? I'm just baffled by that logic. They're BOTH 35 and play positions that require fresh legs. Rolen's had 10-12 games where he hasn't started (he got in some as a ph'er though), whereas Cabrera's had like 5 games without starting. Seems odd to me.

By playing a better defender at the most important INF position? I doubt that. I think Dusty's just worried about hurting Cabrera's pride more than anything.

This would have been the perfect day to target as Aroldis' debut. LeCure is working on borrowed time -- his stuff is far below average for MLB standards. This is a horrible matchup for the Reds today. Our AAA pitcher against the Royals' ace who is WAY overdue for a win.

I actually like the red jersey. The Reds don't overdo it by wearing it too often, so it's a nice change of pace. (They only wear it for day games.) I wish they would occasionally wear it on the road, though--maybe for day games on the road.

I don't know if they do or not. Does anyone know if they asked for anything from Mike Leake's first start? It does seem a little arrogant but I don't know how all that stuff works. I'm still more impressed with Leake's performance this year after spending NO time in the minors over this guy who had time to sharpen his pitching and playing skills in the minors before pitching against the lowly Pirates in his first start. I agree with what Cowboy was saying about Joey swinging at the first pitch a lot more this year but I don't think he does it consistantly so if I were a pitcher facing him, there really isn't a good strategy for him right now. If he sees a good pitch, he's going to go after it and if he doesn't see a good one, he lets it go by. He walked twice last night so I think he's seeing the ball better now. My thoughts too...I don't think Lecure has anything to prove at AAA. The only way I'd want him sent down is if they want him to learn to pitch from the 'pen at the lower level. I think he'd fit well because he gives a different look from Hererra (Screwballer), Del Rosario (Sidearmer), Ondrusek (Fireballer), and Rhodes (Lefty). He may look a little like Owings, but I like him a bit better than Micah. I like Ondrusek and Masset coming in after Arroyo and/or Leake with Owings and LeCure coming in after Harang, Cueto, and/or Bailey. I think it gives different looks and makes it harder for opposing hitters to keep their timing consistent.

Homer would suck in the 'pen... No way that dude warms up quickly or pitches on back-to-back days. He pitches better keeping people off the base paths...he does not get better with men on. If Lecure stays in the rotation, Homer's best value will be as trade fodder. Lecure, however, has bullpen written all over him...his STRENGTH is his composure with men on base. The only thing to be discovered is if he can warm up quickly enough and pitch on back-to-back days. He's mentally tough, so I think he could do it...also I think he'd prefer staying in the big leagues to going back to AAA and remaining a starter. Homer would just sulk AND suck. All just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. :dunno:
