Don't know, but it does appear that Heisey has changed his batting stance which I think is essential for him to have any success at this level. The other night when he homered he seemed to have held his hands lower and dropped his bat from the vertical position it had been previously. Or maybe I was drunk.

The only other real option for DH is Heisey with Stubbs in CF. And I can understand the way Stubbs has been hitting, or not hitting lately, why Baker would want to give him a day off.

And I have stopped underestimating Cairo this season.

Edit: The only real option for DH is Heisey with Stubbs in CF. I don't want anyone to think that I think that Cairo is a "real" option for DH.

Not saying that this is the case now, but it seems like whenever the "obvious" doesn't happen (ie Ramon pinch hitting over Nix) there is a reason why it goes down like that. Maybe Stubbs is battling something or maybe he is struggling and needs a blow (like when you have a .625 OPS over the last two weeks).

Or...maybe not. From Fay.

“Against this guy, Cairo is one of the few ones with success,” Baker said. “That’s the only way I could get Cairo in there without taking someone else out.

Cairo - 3-4 with a triple and a ribbie against Lee in 2008 (when he was 22-3 with a 2.54 ERA).

OK, someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we put up like six runs on Lee the last time we faced him when he was with Cleveland (and was on a tear that year that led up to the Cy Young)?! I swear I remember that and if we can't put up too much against him, maybe they can at least run up his pitch count so they can pounce on their bullpen and really do some serious damage. And regarding Cairo, at least he's not batting higher in the order tonight. Gotta find the positives everyone, LOL ;)

I'm glad part of this west coast trip falls during the weekend when I can stay up late to watch the games. I'm sitting here with my green tea ready to watch the game and like all other good Reds fans around the country, I'm also doing my nails. I know you're all jealous, LOL :p:

Seriously Dusty? You couldn't have a great defensive OF and Gomes DH?

There's so much here to chew on...

Safeco's left and center tend to hold up flyballs so a flyball pitcher like Cueto can be given a boost by having a great defensive outfield. Left field almost plays like centerfield so it's especially desirable to have good defense there.

Not sure I understand the outfield tonight in that light.

That said, Safeco rewards left handed hitters.

We have two in the lineup tonight.

Really with Lee on the hill what's Dusty supposed to do I guess? Dusty is playing against the pitcher, not the park.

Cairo at DH though? I'm perplexed there.

Anyway, Gomes will probably have a webgem, Cairo will probably hit two homers, and the righties will likely pound the ball senseless...

I think it is the backside pain, but the Reds have probably told the media that it's lower back pain so they don't embarrass Ramon. Jeff Brantley wouldn't have come up with George Brett-like issues out of nowhere. He and Marty kind of chuckled about calling it that on the radio. Marty said that was a good thing to call Ramon's problem because he hadn't known what to say about it.

In other news, Fay just said on the radio that it's going to be a while before Hanigan can play. He said he had talked with Ryan who said he's not going to try to catch for a while because every time he does his thumb swells.

Eh, Stubbs has had some rookie errors (most rookies do, see: Jay Bruce), but I was talking about range. Franklin looks better because he plays in a bigger stadium. Stubbs' strides are so long that he doesn't look to cover as much ground as he does.

As far as Willy T., Stubbs' arm is MUCH better than Willy's. Stubbs just has to avoid the pitchers mound.
