View Full Version : US Open Final Round
Interesting developments early on. Colossal meltdown by Johnson. He might not even finish under par.
Phil 3 putt on #4 from inside 20 feet. Tiger is a disaster...can't even hit the fairway with his irons. He's toast, IMO.
I think Ernie Els is going to take, which would be fantastic. McDowell also has a good chance.

Don't count Tiger out yet.
Ernie vs. Tiger.... The Big Easy vs. The Big Sleazy
Tiger just doesn't have it, but it's possible he could turn it on. But he's not doing ANYTHING well. His lag putts are terrible.
WOW!! I feel bad for Johnson. He's 5 over par through 3 holes and just put his tee shot OB off the tee on 4.
Woods thought he hit a good tee shot on 6, but it kept rolling and went into the hazard. I think he's done.

I love watching the younger players choke at the Major Championships.
Tiger made one long putt, but has hardly hit a good shot of any kind otherwise.
We certainly can't let a frenchie win. Of course, it sure would be fun to see him add to the Van de Velde legacy.

Truly a choke of epic proportions.
This isn't even fun to watch. They've made the greens and fairways so ridiculous they're barely playable. I like that the US Open is generally the toughest test in golf, but this is no fun, at least to me. It's going to come down to whoever doesn't blow up.

Cheese eating surrender monkey dangerously close to the lead
Martin Kaymer needs to make a run. Then Havret would definitely crawl into the fetal position.

I agree 100%. It's barely golf. I like to see the pros play like me but they need to be rewarded for good shots not punished for them. That shot by Duval where he chipped up from behind the green then it rolled right off was ridiculous.
Ernie's shot on 14 that rolled off the green by 15 yards was just ridiculous. I agree, that's not golf.

Choke-a-palooza
Do I hear an echo?
This is even worse than Beth Page last year, and i didn't think a US Open could be more of a disaster than that. I'm really having a hard time staying awake. I've never been this disinterested watching a major before.
The USGA will learn from this as they have to be aware of how this is going. Worst final round ever.

I'm looking forward to the British Open. It'll be tough but fair.
Yep. Nothing like St. Andrews

I think if the weather is nice, Tiger's got a real shot at the British Open. He's done well there in the past and he did well in the Masters and the US Open. Of course the British tabloids will be murder on him but he could do it.

It seemed like that no matter how close a putt got to a hole, it broke at the last second 90 degrees. Those were some tough cups. It's why we saw so many missed reads, I think. It's almost like they found the one bump in the green and put the cup there.

I love the U.S. Open and all the struggles. The winning score should always be near even par at the U.S. Open. I wouldn't want it to be that hard every week, but one week a year I think it's fantastic to watch these guys battling to make par.

I like it to be a struggle, but this was a little over board. It seemed the winner was decided on lucky bounces rather than skill.
I agree with Razor. This was too much. It was a game of survival, not skill. I didn't enjoy watching it at all. Most of the US Opens wind up being close to even par, but I never remember it being like this. The winner shot 4 over par in the final round!
Torry Pines two years ago wound up with -1 being the best score for Tiger and Mediate. Yet the players loved the course, and there were places you could make up shots if you took a risk. Hell, Oakmont in 2007 saw Cabrera win at +5 and I don't remember it being like this.
The problem was that there really was nowhere a player could strategically choose to make up ground. That makes things boring, IMO. The path to winning was not screwing up more than the others. The course made it impossible to do anything else. To each their own, I guess, but for me this was not enjoyable to watch at all.

I felt comfortable watching it because it was like watching myself play golf.
