Brandon Phillips 2b

Paul Janish ss

Joey Votto 1b

Scott Rolen 3b

Jonny Gomes lf

Drew Stubbs cf

Chris Heisey rf

Miguel Cairo DH

Ramon Hernandez c

Mike Leake p

vs. LHP Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 4.21)

I don't feel too bad about this lineup except the part where Stubbs bats 6th.

I've got PBP. I'll be doing what I was trying to do Thursday when I first started doing PBP again: Break the Reds out of a funk. They've got to get the bats goin' tonight.

No Bruce and Cairo as DH? No me gusto. Is Gonzalez that tough against lefties that you'd rather have Cairo and deal with Gomes defense when you could've gotten him out of there?

Bruce needs to regroup. His swing is kind of screwed up these days.

06-21-2010, 07:36 PM
With Bruce & Cabrera getting the day off, Dusty's choices for DH consisted of Nix, Corky and Cairo. Going with Cairo leaves us with at least a somewhat potent bat on the bench for PH duties. Getting Hanigan back would be a nice boost (as would getting somebody up here who can replace Cairo.)

Yes he can. But if he does then the Reds can't use a DH. Further, you are not allowed to PH for a DH IIRC.

Cairo and Bruce vs LHPs in 2010: line is basically the same, with Cairo having a much smaller sample size

Bruce over last 14 days: .217/.299/.370

Gio G vs LHP in 2010: .138/.198/.250
vs RHP: .274/.365/.387

I'm thinking this is a great day for Bruce to take a seat.

I still think the lead Joey had off second base left him a dead duck on that play. He didn't start running until he saw the SS get the ball. IMO he was dead at second or dead at third. Maybe he took off for third to keep them from turning the double play? Who knows but I'm sure he's kicking himself over it too. BTW-I won't always give Joey the benefit of the doubt for base running issues but he gets a pass from me tonight because he drove a run in early in this game. :p:

Keep the same rotation, when the 5th man comes to pitch it will be Leake... Go through the rotation again, Its Volkie, next time its Leake.

I apologize if this has already been discussed ad nauseum, but I wanted to pop in real quick and ask something.

Why does Dusty play Gomes in the field when he could be using him as a DH during interleague play? This, along with DHing guys like Miguel Cairo just makes absolutely no sense to me.

I just can't believe The Reds could have Jonny Gomes in the lineup while NOT having him play the field and they aren't doing it.

Was he with the A's long enough to qualify? Isn't he with another team this year? I swear I saw him on a web gem not that long ago but can't remember which team.

I think tonight it has to do with Bruce getting the night off. He wasn't going to play Nix against the lefty and Heisey and Stubbs are all ready in there. Who else could he have put in LF tonight?

Parker was a great story for the Reds. Signed as a dead beat free agent, rejuvinated his career with 4 stellar years w/ some very good Reds teams in the mid 80's...and then was traded for some Rijo dude that worked out pretty well.
