View Full Version : Reds vs. Indians 6/26/10 -- looking for another series win over Cleveland

Not feeling good about the pitching matchup though. LeCure doesn't have Major League stuff IMO and has gotten worse and worse with each start with the Reds. Something tells me this will be his last start this year, or maybe his second-to-last.

Masterson isn't great, but he graduated from Beavercreek HS in the Dayton area (and will have a bunch of friends/family in the house) and unlike LeCure he DOES have MLB stuff. He started the season like junk but has been much better of late. Hopefully the Reds get the bats out and LeCure can prove me wrong and have a good outing. It's not like the Indians have a great lineup, so even LeCure could hold them down. Hopefully.

If LeCure struggles....I'd expect Wood or Maloney to make the next start in his spot.

Lefites have an .862 OPS against Masterson this season. RHBs are at .633 in a comparable number of PAs. Looks like Votto, Bruce and Nix will need to do the heavy lifting tonight.

He started out well when he was first brought up, but each start has been more and more of a struggle IMO.

He's like just about every Reds starter not named Harang from 2002-2005. Little stuff, mediocre velocity, walk the tight rope every night out. He's a battler ......I'll give him that. But at this point, he looks like a AAAA ceiling pitcher.

Shouldn't affect his ERA (not good) or WHIP (atrocious). In fact, sometimes facing "aces" your numbers are better (sans W-L) because you know you have to be at your best and can't give up much.

Well, yeah, but I don't think anybody is judging him based on Wins and Losses. His ERA is respectable, but misleading. When you're giving up a ton of baserunners and not missing many bats, it's only a matter of time until you get burned.

Yeah, but Wood was the Reds' minor league pitcher of the year last year (and almost made the rotation out of ST), while LeCure was never really on the map until his good start at Louisville this season. This has been his worst season with the Reds, and while he always seems to flirt with danger, at what point does "lucky" just become what he does regularly? He may make us all nervous every time out, but it's a rare occasion when he actually blows it. Sure, it's happened more this season than before, but over his entire run with the Reds...solid.
