Sure would be nice to see Bruce and his .355 OBP moved higher up in the order. Just flip him and Cabrera and I'd be happy(er).

When you only have two lefty bats in the lineup, it would be unusual to hit them back-to-back. I wouldn't do it.

Against a righty starter, I might flip Bruce and Gomes. I might hit Bruce fifth and Gomes sixth.

Otherwise, I'm fine with this lineup, given the Reds' hitters.

BTW, I'm only a Reds fan of 2 years, who was the last lefty starter they had for a significant length of time? I believe we had someone named Brandon Claussen who was a lefty, was he the most recent? And yes, I know Adam Pettyjohn started the last game of '08, and Daryl Thompson (What's he up too, BTW) started maybe a couple, but I mean for a significant portion of a season, at least.

I just wasn't following the Reds (at all) when Milton was here. Not sure what the big deal is.

As for the Cubs lineup, I actually have it:

Colvin 9
Baker 4
Lee 3

Byrd 8
Soriano 7

Castro 6
Silva 1

Off day for Theriot and Fukodome. Should make things that much easier.

If you want a really good lefty that was great for a couple of years you have to go back to Danny Jackson. He won 24 in 1988 and had a couple of other very good years. I really can't think of another good one since that made a positive impact for very long.

Forgot about Browning. He was longer lasting than Jackson. I wasn't keeping up with the Reds very closely in the early to mid 90's so I couldn't remember much about Smiley and how well he did. I knew Schourek had one good season but honestly couldn't remember if he was even a lefty.

IIRC, during ST when it was obviously down to Leake & Wood for the 5th spot, but certainly not decided yet, one of the beat writers made mention that Leake & Wood might be the two best athletes on the team. I think some scoffed at that notion, but watching Wood run out that bunt and seeing how Leake handles the bat, that might be closer to the truth than many thought at the time.

It is beyond amazing that Sam LeCure got first crack at a call-up this year and not Wood. I know LeCure had a good beginning to the season, but one guy clearly has big-league stuff (Wood) and one does not (LeCure). Also, how about looking at the entirety of last season instead of the first couple weeks of this one if you need to make a decision on who to call up?

Oh well, at least the right guy is on the roster right now.
