You can be pissed off but don't do it in a manner that gets you ejected.

Besides with two strikes he needs to be swinging at that.

I think the ump actually was giving him a little leeway in the argument until he threw his helmet.

RedsManRick

I agree. Votto probably was just boiling from the All-Star snub.

It's never good to have Joey out, but if he is ever going to sit it down today's the day. Let's give him 24 hours to cool down and then he'll start winning games with his bat again.

RBA

Exactly. Throwing you helmet is a guarantee to get tossed. I thought the ump gave him plenty of rope, he could have tossed him before the helmet toss.

I understand being upset at the absurd All Star snub, but that was not a very mature way of dealing with it. I'd say 'needs to grow up" is a perfect way of describing Votto right there.

I'll give Votto a pass on this today.

People want a fiery, angry team leader type of a baseball player but this will occasionally happen to a player with that level of intensity. He was wrong, but not many people on here can realistically say they'd be above it.

This is Joey Votto, after all.

Stubbs with a chance to make two outs in an inning twice in two days.

That's actually great from the Reds perspective.

But Stubbs is no fun, as he raises his OPS to .714.

Yesterday we had 9 runs in the 7th on 3 hits.

Today we have 8 on, inter alia, 5 HR's. And maybe counting.

No one on base, two outs, and two strikes on Phillips.

Then 5 HR's and 8 runs later.....

Something that doesn't get the attention it should.....the Reds have the fewest errors in the majors at 30. Minnesota, NYY, San Diego and SF are the only teams WITHIN 10 in the majors. The Cards have 57 as a point of reference.

Add to this the spectacular D of guys like Rolen, Stubbs, Bruce, and Phillips.....and WOW, this team only looks that much better on paper.

Additionally, mental gaffes aren't something that is measured.....but it is apparent that the trend of 10 years has been discontinued for 'unforced errors'.
