Miler also in for Hanigan. Not the best lineup today. Hope dearly it's just an off-day for BP.

No PBP for me tonight as I'll be at this one

It's a fine line-up, I am good with Phillips getting an occasional day of rest. It's hot, and we need him in August and September.

That's not a very good lineup. I agree with resting BP and I'm not blaming Dusty there are just a lot of guys banged up right now. His hands are kind of tied but that's not very good. Really hope Votto and Bruce wake up tonight.

Phillips has been in a slump and played rather than rested during the All-Star break. So it makes sense he should get a day off.

I don't know why Hanigan isn't playing today, although my guess is the Reds want their best possible lineup tomorrow when Strasburg pitches.

Reds need to take three of four from the Nats.

Sounds like a good theory to me. And I agree with you on taking the series. The Reds have a softer schedule in the 2nd half and need to take advantage of it.

Hopefully Janish remembers how to hit. 9 days since his last at bat. Weird that Cabrera is struggling and they have had no days off.

Dusty, why do you hate Paul so much?

_Sir_Charles_
07-20-2010, 04:41 PM
Ugh. Yeah, I don't care for that lineup at all. Miller behind the dish? Janish in the 2 hole and playing SECOND? I get giving Brandon a day off, but I would've bumped Stubbs to the 1 or 2 hole for this one game. Janish needs to be in the bottom half of the lineup. I also would've considered moving Bruce up to the 2 hole. He needs a change, and I think some protection in the lineup is just what the doctor ordered.

Today (and health) not withstanding, I've been leaning towards something like this...

Phillips
Bruce
Votto
Rolen
Gomes
Hanigan
Stubbs
Cabrera/Janish
Pitcher

But watch...we'll score 15 runs with the lineup we're running out there today. *grin*

I'm looking forward to seeing Strasberg tomorrow night. We'll be and, for once, I'd like to see a rookie pitcher face us who doesn't look like the second coming of Cy Young (and SS has the hype). I'm hoping we can smack him around a bit.

Whoever is in charge at FSN Ohio of "programming during rain delays" needs to be fired. It's always something highly weird that no one cares about. They should show those excellent documentaries "Baseball's Golden Age" since, you know, it is a rain delay during a baseball game and all. Amazes me how dense people can be about something so simple. Hmm, would baseball fans rather watch a show on remote-control planes, or a show about baseball? Tough call there.

We're all good here right? Since we're winning and Leake pitched 5 innings, the Reds win even if it doesn't go a "full" 5 innings, right? 4.5 innings should be enough if the home team is winning. Just like the game doesn't have to go a "full" 9 innings if the home team is winning after 8.5 innings.

Damn I hope I'm right here. I know the rule is you have to play 5 innings for it to be considered a real game, but 4.5 should be good enough if the home team is winning. It wouldn't matter what the Reds did in the bottom of the 5th, they would still win. So, they shouldn't have to go through the formality of batting in the bottom of the 5th.

Cool, that's what I thought. Thanks for confirming. Wouldn't have made any sense the other way, but baseball is not always concerned about making sense. ;-)

So, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!!! I really don't think it would matter either way, but no reason to take the chance if we don't have to. More rest for the bullpen, no chance of players getting injured on the wet surface ... and most importantly, getting the W in the bag!

Now I can fully focus my attention on rooting against the Cardinals tonight.

Totally a matter of opinion because I'm an avid fan of air racing, which I just discovered a couple months ago. If not for rain delays, I'd never know it existed. Now I look for it in the listings.

Oh, and BTW, they are not remote control. Each has a pilot.

Still showing some weird show about mini-planes doing stunts. It's sponsored by Red Bull, it's in Canada and it has British announcers. Pretty much the last thing one would think they would show during a Reds' rain delay. Give me some Baseball's Golden Age!

Correct. It's an official game.
