Heisey?!? Screw him. Free Janish!

Heisey got called up on May 1st. Janish has been here all season long.

Heisey...53 games played, 83 at bats
Janish...37 games played, 63 at bats

I could understand it if Paul were struggling or the starter at his position were putting up ungodly numbers, but it's not exactly the case. It won't be much longer before the starting pitchers start accumulating more AB's than Paul. Even Corky's got more AB's. *sigh*

~edit~ Just for clarification, I'm a Heisey fan too and I'd like to see him play more as well. But if anybody needs the call for playing time, it ain't Chris.

anyone know if Rolen still rocks Coldplay as his at bat music these days?

I have been losing interest in the Reds recently. So far Bob/Walt have done nothing to improve the team. Dusty runs the same guys out there night after night. The status quo won't be enough (IMO) & I don't want to get all excited over the playoff chase if I think we'll simply fall short.

The Cardinals have also done nothing to improve their team. The Reds are virtually even with them both in record and run differential. This team isn't going anywhere -- it's legit. People should enjoy the race for what it is instead of worrying about what it could be.

Jocketty still has about 20+ hours to do something. If he doesn't, I'll be disappointed but there's no reason to panic or give up on this particular team.

I don't think you've watched Medlen enough this year if you think that. He's got a 4-to-1 strikeout/walk ratio and has been very effective in inducing groundballs. He's got some very good stuff. He opts for pounding the bottom half of the strikezone instead of coming right at guys, which somewhat lowers the number of Ks he gets. Still, Medlen is far from mediocre.

I was going by the literal translation, meaning of medium quality or mediocre. But it's all good.

In seriousness though, living in Atlanta I've seen him several times this year both in person and on TV. Reds fans would love this guy. He keeps the ball low in the zone, doesn't walk guys, has low pitch counts and in 166 career innings thus far, has struck out 8 per nine innings (he struck out nearly 11 per 9 innings in 225 career minor league innings).

Update on Westbrook/Cards

The Cardinals are targeting Jake Westbrook, rival teams tell ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark. The Cards are no longer pursuing Aaron Cook or Livan Hernandez, since they’re focused on the Indians right-hander. However, Stark hears that there’s just a 50% chance of a trade.

The Indians don’t want to absorb salary in a deal, but Westbrook will make about $4MM between now and the end of the season. He also obtains a $2MM bonus if the Indians trade him.

The Cardinals have been looking for an innings eater and Westbrook fits that description. The 32-year-old has posted a 4.65 ERA in 127.2 innings, with 5.1 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. Westbrook is scheduled to face the Blue Jays tomorrow.
