View Full Version : Stubbs and Bruce are hurting this team...

Just an observation but it seems that Stubbs and Bruce are really lowering the potential of this offense. I don't understand why Dusty doesn't push these guys a little more with competition from the bench. Can someone tell me why Dusty doesn't play Heisey more often considering the struggles of Stubbs and Bruce? That is 2/3 of the out field being absolutely worthless at the plate. Do you think Dickerson will get a shot in the near future? CD is really hot right now batting .400 and .472 OBP in his first 10 games back.

Bruce and Stubbs have to be split up. You can't put two strikeout guys like them together in the order. But I say move Bruce to the 8th spot. Bat Stubbs 6th, at least he might beat out a ground ball. Bat our catcher 7th, either one of them are better hitters than Bruce or Stubbs.>

And Heisey needs to platoon with them, a 3 man rotation. And maybe bring up a hot hitter from AAA. Something is going to have to light a fire under them or they are never going to get better.

I hate to sound like a naysayer, but we're going to have a hard time winning when our 5-6-7 hitters go 0-13 with 6 k's.

Gomes and Cabrera are hurting this team more than Stubbs and Bruce are. No doubt about it.

Nobody is hurting this team offensively more than Jay Bruce right now. Stubbs, Gomes and Cabrera are all having great months at the plate compared to Jay. Of course Gomes' horrendous defense is another story altogether.

July:
Bruce: .196/.235/.261/.496 (28%K)
Cabrera: .300/.346/.350/.696 (10% K)
Stubbs: .238/.279/.450/.729 (27%K)
Gomes: .239/.290/.391/.681 (16% K)

Chris Heisey should be in the lineup every night that we play ball.....no way he should not be playing in the spot of one of our OF'ers.....he should be playing for one of them each night. I have defended Dusty time and time again, I have bashed him as well....but this is the last straw for me, I am never going to fully understand what goes through Dustys mind when he makes a lineup...He is holding this team back, that is a fact.

If Heisey doesn't start for Stubbs tomorrow I think I may choke a chicken.

I thought it was jerking the chicken?

Anyways, I think our whole outfield is struggling at the plate right now. I'm in agreement with the other users in this thread - let's see some more regularity out of Heisey.

I don't think I can stomach watching Stubbs bat again for quite some time after the last week or so. We all want him to learn to hit, but really? These games are becoming way to important.

I'm cool with them not making any trades. But something has to be done about Bruce and Stubbs hitting back to back, no doubt about it.

Last Sunday a loss to the Astros 4-0, Monday a loss to the Brewers 3-2, Tuesday and Wednesday wins against the Brewers 12-4 and 10-2, Yesteday a 6-4 loss to the Braves, today the LAST day of the week a 5-2 win. It was a 3-3 week, new week tomorrow there dude.

I think he was referring to the past 7 days, dude. In baseball, Monday is essentially the start of a new week since most series end on Sunday.

162 games is a marathon.
I'd like to see Dusty start Heisey 3 times a week replacing Gomes, Stubbs, and Bruce once each.
Likewise Janish could start 3 times a week replacing BP, OCab, and Rolen.
If there are 6 games in a week, the Reds could have a replacement player in every game, but once September rolls around, just play the best players.
