Its possible he ends up on waivers. Would you?

Yes

I would, but don't see Walt doing it. I really believe Walt feels this team doesn't need any tweaking barring an injury.

in a heartbeat

Yes, but I don't think he would make it past the AL teams.

Yea doubtful he makes it to the NL for sure.

I honestly don't think the Reds make a whole lot of moves this year. From the posts I have seen Jocketty is pretty happy to wait this thing out and see what happens. Damon would no doubt give this lineup a whole different look.

Ah, how sweet Johnny Damon would look at the top of the order, or batting 5th, or anywhere in the lineup for this team at that matter. His patience at the plate would be a welcome sight on this team. And he would help balance out some of the returns to earth of other players on the team, while making it less HR dependent, despite that we are amazingly still first in the NL in offense.

That's obviously a yes ;)

He wouldn't be a good fit on this team....his OBP is too high.

Wow. The lead off this team lacks. Before anybody starts citing Phillips' lead-off #'s, he is much better at #2, check the ups and downs of his bat stats. And, when the big 3 batted 2-3-4, they gave Gomes better pitches to hit.

Would be a truely Great Move. I wish the Reds would have signed him in the offseason. Would have been the perfect #2 hitter all year long besides these dang ShortStops!

Not that it would happen, but yes, in a heartbeat.

not unless the NL wants to adopt the DH

If you think Gomes is a bad fielder you have not seen anything yet

He has lost his power (7 HR) & speed (7 SB), he never had an arm and costs 8 million

BTW he has a no-trade clause

Gomes is a far worse fielder than Damon, not saying Damon is great or anything. His UZR150 is 5.6 this year, Gomes -21.6. Damon can also play CF and LF, which Gomes cannot. Damon can still play OF easily.

Why would they be in talks with Johnny Damon? Does he have a no trade clause?

I'll believe it when I see a verifiable source. Man, I wish I could have cited sources like this in college! :fineprint:

plus its hard for me to believe that all the al teams let Damon pass thru waivers then most every NL team let him pass thru to fall in our lap

There is not a Detroit Radio station on XM. Not sure what you are talking about but you don't talk about it very well.

How could they "talk" with Detriot about him? If they put him through waivers, the Reds would just bid and hope they come up before a team ahead of them on the waiver list.

Although I wouldn't want to see Damon on the Reds, he is still a good batter and has always been a bit under-rated IMO.

NeilHamburger

LOL, this guy seriously got caught and should be banned for this crap. It's past the waiver cutoff, only way Reds could possibly get Damon is if every AL team passed on him. Nice try.

I say we get Damon and Dunn and we roll with this lineup:

1. Damon (RF)
2. Philips
3. Votto
4. Rolen
5. Dunn (LF)
6. Heisey (CF)
7. Janish/OCab
8. Hernandez/Hannigan

Defense takes a step back (maybe an understatement), but we add a .370 OBP to the leadoff spot and a .943 OPS to the 5 hole.

Obviously I am dreaming, but that would be a tough lineup.

Not saying this story might be true, but a co-worker of mine just came in and said he "heard Reds are talking with Johnny Damon extensively". Again, no proof or credibility, but Im hearing this from a few different sources now...

Again, every team in the AL, and every team in the NL with a worse record would have to not claim Damon. Hell, the Cards would claim him, and right now they would be in front of the Reds, just to make sure Cincy didn't get him.

Allow me to clarify. In the future, please report these posts and they will be dealt with. We don't make a habit of running quick searches on random posters unless their posts are first called to our attention. Now that you have done that, I will follow your suggestion. Not saying I'm going to do it every day, though, so...
