Reading on some player updates from rotoworld.... Came across Manny's update... I laughed...

An MRI on Manny Ramirez's injured calf was postponed because the outfielder came down with a case of claustrophobia.
Just when you thought you'd heard it all, we have yet another case of Manny being Manny. In reality the postponement isn't really a big deal, as he continues to receive treatment and should get the MRI soon, but it does seem to speak of Manny's lack of eagerness to get back to the Dodgers lineup. There's currently no timetable for his return.

How's Edinson looking so far? I see the k's, bb's & hits, but is he hitting his spots? His velocity?

I'd say he's 'OK'

Most of his balls are way out of the zone....but he's throwing enough strikes in the 1st 3 innings to keep em honest. I don't know that his velocity is as good as it's been......but his control overall, is better.

His changeup looks good today.

So basically......in a pennant race....this team has to deal with a pitcher that you never know what you are going to get from?

When Bailey is ready....will he come up and start over Volquez or Harang?

It's a good question. Heck, it's THE question. I think it's all going to depend upon Homer's next rehab outing. He looked VERY good last time out, but then again, so did Edinson during HIS rehab. With Volquez coming off a surgery, I'd lean heavily in favor of Homer. We've got quite a ways to go in terms of knowing anything of substance about Aaron though.

So basically......in a pennant race....this team has to deal with a pitcher that you never know what you are going to get from?

Tony......it looks like Bailey is beyond ready. They have 7 solid starters, and few options. Trading Harang makes the most sense to me for step one...but how do you do that without having him come back and prove he's healthy? Leake is worn out, but I don't think he'll be sent down or dl'd. Wood is pitching lights out. Arroyo and Cueto are clearly the dependable vets.

Too many good starters. If you had told me that 5 years ago I would have laughed you out of the room.

Leake or a move toward a 6 man rotation keeping Arroyo, Cueto, and Wood on regular rest with the others filling in.

Reds Fanatic

I'm not sure I agree with the statement that Leake's struggled the last 2 months. I think he's been left in too long the last 2 months. Quite a few of his starts were VERY good, only to be ruined by a crummy final inning when Dusty tries to give him one more inning.

I agree with the Reds idea of limiting his innings, I just think they're going about it in the wrong way. I'd keep him on a steady schedule, just pull him in each outing a bit earlier. 6 innings max per outing...or 80 pitches. Something along those lines. But these extra 4 days of rest really mess with his control.

I like Dickerson as a bat off the bench and a guy who can competently play all 3 OF positions -- but the dude's minor league numbers were nothing special, and he can't stay healthy in the bigs. I agree completely, though, that he gets way more attention than his play his probably warranted. The one thing he DOES bring to the table is solid OB numbers.
