I agree, but during the stretch pennant run I'm hoping we don't see many off days for our guys either. However, that's where our strength lies, we don't lose a lot because our guys are well rested, our bench is one of the best in the league..

It's gotta start telling on Molina at least.

Rested players should start paying dividends in August and September. It way already be occuring, there's little way of telling if a player is regressing due to fatique.

I saw the 1:15 start on their site and thought it was talking about tomorrow since I knew they played at 2:15 today, not realizing it was due to EST vs. CST and was today's game. I think the struggled lately thing has been overblown. He has had two bad starts, but before that had 3 solid starts. One so-so start even before that which was preceeded by some dominant starts.

I really think the "Lincecum is struggling" thing is being overblown. He had a 3.02 ERA for the month of July and has made just 3 starts this month.

He's done this several times in his career. He'll have a few bad starts and come back and dominate. I'd rather face Cain than Lincecum on the off-chance that dominant Tim shows up.

His K-rate is down, his walks are up, his HR-rate is doubled.

That ERA in June should likley have been higher based on his rates.

He's not the same guy. He doesn't throw nearly as hard as he used to.

Though he is still good, there is every reason to be concerned.

I guess the old adage about stealing 1st base holds true.

Guys hitting 7th and 8th don't get a lot to hit, and they don't get a chance to run much when they do get on base. Look at Drew Stubbs, who has only stolen a handful of bases since being moved to the 7th spot. On top of all that, the Brewers don't seem to like to run a lot with anybody, preferring to wait for Fielder, Braund and Hart to walk around the bases.

And then there is his diminishing velocity ...

But I keep going back to one thing that cannot be explained by Molina’s utter Molina-ness or the fact that In the Old Days They All Threw 300 Pitches a Game and Liked It:

* Lincecum’s fastball now settles into the 89-91 mph range after the first inning, and two years ago it was consistently at 94-96 mph.

If you don’t have hitters in fear of the fastball, that makes the change-up so much less deadly. I don’t care who the catcher is.

Concerned? About what? His FIP is 3.27.

His K-Rate is still 9.73 and walk rate 3.45. It should also be noted that his BABIP is 20 points higher than usual, his HR/FB ratio is finally around a sustainable 9% (it's been 5.5% each of the past two seasons) and his GB/FB ratio is actually better than usual.

These aren't exactly red flags here. Certainly not in this short a sample. If it continues over the next year or two, that would be one thing.

His fastball sits in the low 90's these days.

According to Fangraphs, he's on pace to have the same quality of fastball he's had the previous two years despite his loss in velocity. His best pitch has always been his changeup (which he's ranked No. 5 in all of baseball with this year).

Even for what he is, there's only been about a dozen pitchers in baseball that's statistically had a better year.

Rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated indeed.

Last year his velocity dropped 1.5 MPH from 2008 and he actually had a far better year. The velocity could indicate something is wrong. But it doesn't always.

I'm not disputing the possibility that it has... but whatever the chance that something is wrong, he's been far better this year despite those problems than he's given credit for. He's a top 15 pitcher across baseball. Yet some people are jumping up and down hoping the Reds face him.

The subject though isn't about whether or not he has injury problems. It's about whether or not Reds fans should be eager to face him. People are all "I'm not worried about facing him" despite the fact he's still one of the leaders in strikeouts and been a top 10-15 pitcher all year.

We're still talking about a guy with a 3.27 FIP and people seem excited to face him. It's strange, to be perfectly honest.

Not decided yet. They'd have to sign off on playing the game on September 20th, which would mean 41 games in 41 days. They'd prefer October 4th, but the facility is occupied. Hopefully the Reds lead by 1.5, and it becomes moot.
