Fay:
Miguel Cairo (leg) and Laynce Nix (ankle) are better, but their playing status is still iffy today.

Had anyone heard anything about Miggy being hurt???

I did find this from Fay's blog last night:
Cairo tweaked a leg injury while running out a double in the San Francisco series, Baker said.

I thought Cairo got spiked at the end of the first game of the Cubs series?

~edit~ No, it was the final game of the Giants series. My bad. Sandoval sliding into second on a steal. Spiked Miggy. I never saw anything in the media, but several guys posted it during the game.

Maybe not silly. Maybe, as Thom just said, the infield positioning could be better.

No reason why Janish should so consistently have to run a mile to get to the slow grounder. Two games in a row, this also happened at SF.

That Sutbbs catch was one of those catches that nobody will remember tomorrow because it wasn't very dramatic, but which a lesser fielder may very well not have made, resulting in a double.

It's "forgettable" plays like that which make me care about defensive metrics and be quite skeptical about an amateur scouting assessment. (which by the way, are poised to get REALLY good in the next 2-3 years based on what I saw in the f/x conference yesterday)

Thats what I thought... Back in lil league... I used to pitch and if we were the home team during warm ups I'd throw wild all the time to get the ball roughed up... Throw it into the ground, at the plate, etc...

Not a great outing for Wood, I assume he's done. Did get behind too much, still, I marvel at how awful the babip luck was.

Even still, held it to three runs. Could have been a lot worse.

Pull him now and save some bullets for his start next weekend in StL.

Except that pitcher is up now.
And on top of that he's a lefty too.
And yeah.

And he basically conceded a run in the process. And may not have had to face the pitcher at all. And yeah.

You face the good hitting righty without a force play on and with a runner on third and then walk the lefty who follows him? Sorry, that doesn't make sense to me. A strikeout or pop fly is basically the only good outcome against Soto and those aren't likely. Once you let Soto hit, I get the walk. I just don't get letting Soto hit.

Several of you think Ondrusek losing Dusty's trust because he didn't come in for the 6th? I don't follow.

Didn't Ondrusek throw a scoreless 7th in SF on Wednesday before he had problems in the 8th?

Seems to me Dusty sees Ondrusek as his 7th inning or so guy, not a "long man". And not sure where Ondrusek has "lost trust" unless I am forgetting other bad outings of late.

In any event, great inning from Lecure, exactly what you want to see from a relief pitcher in that situation.

Ondrusek has had a few subpar outings of late.

Not just the 8th inning in SF.

I think, however, that mainly Dusty was impressed with Lecure's last outing. He has looked good since recalled for longer relief. He may be going better than Ondrusek at this moment.

As for Ondrusek, here's his game log:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?n1=ondrulo01&t=p&year=2010

He was part of the carnage in SF, but other than that, not seeing a lot of slippage. I certainly am not going to hold SF against him, or I would have to send about 8 reds pitchers on the next barge down the Ohio River.

At any rate, I am all for Lecure doing what he just did as much as possible the next month and a half. Nice asset to have on the team.

I don't think Dusty wants to do that. Then you're forced to bring in Bray/Ondrusek if one of them struggles. I might have had Masset warming just in case, but I think it was the right call.
