interesting that heisey gets the nod, Bruce moves up to 5th, Stubbs back in the leadoff spot. Nothing to complain about, just not what I was expecting.

Getting a little worried about Brandon, I'd like to see him get some swings in against live pitching before the Cards series. At this point I'm assuming they're going to hold him out tomorrow as well since Dusty has a history of holding guys back an extra day or two when coming off of an injury.

I hope I'm wrong but this matchup doesn't bode well for Heisey.

I'm really curious as to why he has had zero early success vs SP this season.

Is anything wrong with Hernandez ?

Harang was pitching mainly to Hanigan earlier in the season so I imagine Dusty is using Ryan here to help Aaron out in his first start back after a long layoff. That seems like a good idea to me and hopefully it helps him pitch well tonight. I just saw Ramon in the game on Sunday afternoon and he looked perfectly fine. I imagine we'll see Ramon matched up with Cueto tomorrow night.

Supposedly Phillips taking ground balls and doing other baseball activities in warm-ups. I think it's the Dusty thing of waiting an extra day or two. One of Dusty's traits I really like.

I was wondering that myself. Not because of who's starting, but because of him grabbing his hamstrings after reaching 3rd the other night. He was promptly replaced by Phillips as a pinch runner.

They might not have to perform an appendectomy. Might just be inflammation that can be treated with antibiotics.

We're just hoping Harang's an upgrade over Volquez at present, right?

I am.

And, for the record, I was for Harang back into the rotation and EV mothballed. And still am.

Harang generally throws strikes, altho a leadoff walk to Braun is not helpful. At any rate, Harang's recent propensity to give up bullets is ameliorated by his not generally walking people. And, he can't walk people.

At any rate, EV's command issues coming off TJ surgery make him too much of a wild card for my comfort in the rotation right now.

That said, let's not fool ourselves over Harang's babip. It's high because he doesn't generally fool batters at this point and teams can really square up on him. It happened in his rehab stints, it happened earlier this year, and it's happening tonite.

There's been outings this year where Volquez has walked the world and still kept his run total down. They both give up a ton of baserunners.

Really right now it's either you take Harang eating innings or you go with Volquez because you hope he can improve.

Neither are great options.

Harang is leaving a lot of balls up tonight, especially fastballs. Watch Hanigan's target low on a lot of his pitches, and watch Harang miss the target by a significant margin up on a lot of fastballs. We've been fortunate that some of the Brewers good cuts have been right at guys - Valaika's made a couple nice plays - and Brewers hitters have missed a few mistake pitches too.

Hopefully Harang starts getting the ball down a bit, otherwise things could get dicey.

So pichers with less stuff have higher BABIP's?

I didn't know that.

I wasn't equating him with having less "stuff". I was noting that what is throwing right now is not fooling anyone, and has not been. His fastball at 92 is nice, but the breaking ball is inconsistent and it lets hitters sit on the fastball.

Like just happened there to Dickerson, got lucky that line drive was at Janish.

Again, I thought we were just fans talking.

Also, I kinda wish you would quote all of that post you responded to, rather than chopping it up to make some sort of point. I am a Harang fan.

One of Aaron's problems before his back problems was velocity....losing a couple mPh on his fastball and slider is a HUGE advantage to the batter. He wasn't pinointing pitches...and the loss of velocity gave him no 'finish' pitches.

His form look a LOT better, not as stiff legged as his back injury caused him to be. Lets hope he can get stretched out and get that velocity back.

1 run through 3 is a pleasant surprise....hope he gets a quality start in here.

It's gotta make it easier on the Reds to admit injuries, even small ones, knowing they have teammates to pick them up if they need a few games off.

And it makes it easier for Dusty to do what he likes to do, which is nip injuries in the bud with games off rather than letting them get worse.

It's just so much fun to follow a team with everyone contributing like this.
