Dusty knows the player attitude more than most. He knows that Phillips HAD to play after what he has said this year.

Was there an actual reason given? Considering he crushed lefties last week?

No, I was just giving my opinion. I guess Dusty figures with a Lefty going tonight it wouldn't hurt to give Jay one more day.

Tom & the creeper indicated that was the plan on Wednesday night during the broadcast. I don't know if it was speculation, but they mentioned it two different times which tells me that they probably heard it directly from either Dusty or Bruce.

I wonder if this is a sign that Janish is going to hold down the SS job thru the end of the year over OCab, or if Dusty's just giving OCab another day off, or perhaps Janish has done well vs Garcia.

Why did we activate OC if he isn't starting?

Additional depth. Also, it allows Orlando to get into the flow of being an active player without being thrown in the deep end of the pool. Dusty likes to bring players back gradually.

Rolen's was on TV, so I don't have it. Arroyo said this:

"We've got a bigger lead than we could have ever asked for at this point in the season," pitcher Bronson Arroyo said. "We're exactly where we wanted to be. You just go in there and play the games.

"Worst-case scenario, we leave up five games. We don't want that to happen. But we're winding down. There are only 20-some games left. Their margin for error becomes less and less."

This team is what it is becuase it doesn't err on the side of caution. It's made its living by doing exactly what Gomes just did last inning. Sometimes you get a hold of fate, sometimes fate gets a hold of you.
