In GAC"S PICKS, the main stumbling block was the Nebraska-Texas A&M game. Though several of you "stumbled" on some of those other games too as there were some 6-3's and even 5-4's LOL

I pick Florida State when they're the favorite and they lose...I pick against them this week due to my past experience and they win! I pick Boise State because they always seem to win and they lose, I pick Pitt and they lose big to WV, I pick Iowa and they can't beat a bad MN team, and suddenly IU finds a way to win and beats Purdue at their house. I can't win for trying with some of my picks this week but at least I still have some hope alive in the current games, LOL :laugh: :bang:

In GAC'S picks, Captain Hook and I should be in second with .685. I think OUReds is also incorrect. A little Sunday morning math error there. Which is quite understable given how chilly it is. I thought it was odd that we both went 8-3 and dropped so far in the standings.

In GAC'S picks, Captain Hook and I should be in second with .685. I think OUReds is also incorrect.
I went back and took at look at it dave and, for the most part, you are correct. Thank you for catching that. I'm like Jethro Bodine when it comes to ciphering. In fact - Jethro may have a leg up on me in that category.
I blame it on really strong Starbuck's coffee and my eyes bugging out from staring at the calculator for an hour double and triple checking everything to insure it's right. LOL
What I got wrong with you and the Captain was the win %. It should be .684 (I don't round off). OUReds though is correct. He went 6-5, which put his record at 62-39 and gives him a .613 winning percentage. I also went back and checked the rest to insure there were no more errors.

Thanks GAC for doing this. I know its a lot of work. I did this on another board a few years ago. I at least tied for the most right in GAC's picks with 75. I should learn to leave out some picks to get the highest percentage. ;)
I'm not looking forward to the bowl picks. I'm always horrible at those.

OK. Vegas has released their odds for the Bowl schedule and here is where I got them from...

You'll notice there are a couple games where they don't give odds and list it as N/A. I don't know what this means. Maybe some of you do. Is it because Vegas is still figuring the odds on those games and they'll issue them later? Or maybe they don't want to give odds? Don't know.
Also.... I'd hold off, wait till as late as possible, to post your picks because it's still early and those odds could change due to unforeseen circumstances that could arise between now and then (player injury, etc). So I'll keep checking back on those odds, between now and then, to see if any change.
And I'm instituting ONE RULE..... All are welcome and encouraged to participate. And that includes anyone who didn't participate during the regular season. The more the merrier. But to make things easier ON ME one must make picks on ALL THE BOWL GAMES. I'm not going to try to sort out and track those that may decide they only want to pick certain games, or the more "important" ones. Just too hard on this old man's mind. ;)

Usually when they don't list the odds on a game there is some factor like maybe an injury situation they are not sure of that they will try to get more information on before they post the odds.

I think because of the vigerish a person has to pick about 56% winners to break even when betting against the odds. (Assuming the same amount is wagered each time) Looking at these numbers, Vegas would have made a whole bunch of money. I have a system. A pretty simple system at that. Let's see how it works out.

There was a couple times I was tempted to pick against them, and the Wisconsin game was one of them. I just had a very bad feeling about that game.
Well, I started my deep, deep statistical analysis over the weekend of the Bowl games and who to pick. I'd probably do better putting on a blind fold and doing eenie, meenie, minee, mo. LOL
But I have come to this one conclusion.....
How in the world did 8-4 Connecticut get a BCS game vs Oklahoma (who is giving them 17 pts to boot), over teams like Boise State, LSU, Michigan State, or even Nevada?
That's some selection system they got there. :rolleyes:

During the regular season, which is now over, I had two sections of games where those who participated had to pick the winners. One was strictly Big 10 games, and the other was national games which I called GAC's PICKS.
What we are doing now is selecting our winners for the upcoming Bowl schedule (posted 2 pages back) utilizing the point spread. You are more then welcome to participate. In order to participate you have to play the entire schedule (all games), which begins Dec 18th.

Are we just using the point spreads you posted earlier to make the picks? I found that two games that did not have point spreads initially now do. LSU is a -1 favorite over Texas A&M and Air Force is a -3 favorite over Georgia Tech.

Are we just using the point spreads you posted earlier to make the picks? I found that two games that did not have point spreads initially now do. LSU is a -1 favorite over Texas A&M and Air Force is a -3 favorite over Georgia Tech.
Go with the point spreads I initially posted because a couple people have already posted their picks, and I don't think it would be fair to change it at this stage. Just treat those two N/A games as EVENS.
OK. Here's my picks.
Don't let me down Bucks because I originally had selected Arkansas. But you can do it and end that 0-fer streak vs the SEC in Bowl games. I bounced back and forth between Oregon and Auburn, but finally settled for Auburn. A few games, like Oklahoma-Connecticut and Michigan-Mississippi State, the pt spreads might do me in.
And I can't believe I picked Notre Dame to win a Bowl game! [ I have been sick this week and running low grade fevers LOL ]

I hate to be "that guy" who complains, but you doing it piecemeal is unfair. If you keep making picks the day before each game you'll have as much as three weeks worth of extra info on some of these games that we picked before things started. It's not that big a deal, just make some picks and go with it.

I tend to agree with this. But there aren't a whole lot of rules. I had completely forgotten about bowl games(what do you want, I'm an IU fan:)

Well guys, as the "Commish" who is supposedly "controlling" this thing, and I did institute this ONE rule....
And I'm instituting ONE RULE..... to make things easier ON ME one must make picks on ALL THE BOWL GAMES. I'm not going to try to sort out and track those that may decide they only want to pick certain games, or the more "important" ones. Just too hard on this old man's mind.
What should I do here? I want to be fair, but I also don't want to be a jackwagon about it either. I was just trying to avoid hardship on MYSELF as far as the tabulation goes, thus the reasoning for the rule.
As I go back and re-read the rule, the only stipulation it makes is that one must make picks on ALL the Bowl games. It really doesn't stipulate that it has to be done all at once (i.e in one post). And that vagueness is totally my fault for which I apologize. My excuse? I'm a blue collar worker, not a legislator. So "technically" only Hoosier is in "violation". LOL
But look.... I see that there is only 9 of us participating, and since I'm off work on Honda shutdown till Jan 4th, and will be sitting around the home taking it easy, I PERSONALLY have no problem with bending or "amending" the rule if the rest of you don't care. I can handle it.
And how about this? If any of the rest of you want to "amend" or change some of your game picks then feel free to do so.... as long as it's prior to the actual game ;)
I feel confident that I can go through it all and tabulate it OK.

If the Big East or ACC Covers in any bowl besides the WVU and Va. Tech games I will be SHOCKED. Both conferences are PUTRID this year. The only reason I picked Miami to cover is because theyre playing the 1 school I hate more than the ACC teams... Notre Dame.

Slyder is 1-5 ( I didn't see a pick for the S.D. State-Navy game. But I'd give up researching, and do like I did - wear a blindfold LOL )

In the last 4 games, Slyder and Reds Fanatic finished .500 at 2-2. The rest of us... well..... that will be our little secret, but we need to stay out of Vegas.
But so far, the spreads really haven't been a factor as far as helping/hurting anyone.
Was really surprised that Iowa beat Missouri. I didn't think Stanza would be able to play, and with the suspensions, really thought they didn't have a chance. That freshman Coker ran right over Missouri (219 yds, 2 TDs).

Ok. We've now completed a total of 22 Bowl games, with 11 more being played from 12/29 thru 12/31. And in this last "batch" of 11 games here's how everyone finished....

The point spread really hasn't been a factor so far because a lot of the games have not been that close, or even blow outs. But the point spread in the Kansas State-Syracuse game did prove to be a factor..... BuckeyeRed27, Reds Fanatic, and Danny Serafini, all picked Syracuse; but they needed to win by 2.5 and only won by 2.
Slyder was the only one to pick Washington over Nebraska.

You're absolutely right. My mistake. Syracuse was the "weaker" team and getting 2.5 pts. I'll go back and make the adjustment when I update. Good catch.
I went back, double checked, and corrected my error in tabulation when it came to the Kansas State-Syracuse game. Winners in that game were - BuckeyeRed27, Reds Fanatic, and Danny Serafini, who all picked Syracuse. The rest of us were losers.
We've played 8 more games (30 total), taking us thru last night's Sugar Bowl. Here are the results so far, and I must say, most of us are doing much better, but again, that's because the point spreads really haven't been much a factor at all, and only in a few rare instances.
Feel free to double check my results. I've been doing it till I'm crossed-eyed. LOL
