Fine. But they can hit. And have. No need to continually slag the Reds taking care of business, or that EV is throwing a nice game.

EV is definitely on fire tonight, but are you aware that Pittsburgh has the second worst offense in baseball this year? They've scored 486 runs which is only better than Seattle.

They have a few nice hitters, but as a team, no Pittsburgh deosn't hit. 3.5 runs per game--that's awful.

I'm not bagging on Volquez. He's looked great. Just saying: this Pittsburgh team is terrible.

I am aware of that. And yet, EV is throwing a good game. No need to act like it doesn't count because it's against the Pirates. Again, this same Pirates team lit up Carpenter a few weeks back. It's not like they are always awful. They have their moments.

Sure. Every Major League team has their moments. That's why they're Major League baseball teams. Heck, the worst teams in history win at least a third of their games.

Edinson's game still counts and I'm thrilled to death to see him bring it tonight. I'm especially pleased with his command. But I think it's fair to point out that he's doing it against a team that is pushing historically bad.

Right, because it's always important to minimize it when the Reds do something nice...

I think some people are just frustrated that these performances haven't carried over against top tier competition. That's created some perspective as to who it's coming against and who it's not. It's not that people don't enjoy/appreciate it, just that they're trying to temper enthusiasm because it clearly hasn't yielded the same results against the big boys.

No one is the self-appointed enthusiasm temperers. But don't they have the right to say it? If that's how they feel, they should say so. It is, after all, a message board. It's a place for discussions. You have every right to say how good someone is looking. They have every right to agree, disagree or modify based on your comment.

For me, tonight is exactly why Volquez frustrates me. Because Pirates or not, this is the kind of quality pitching he's capable of. That it is woefully hit or miss is why I have a hard time getting too happy about this kind of performance. Unfortunately he's got a habit of sometimes following it up against a team like San Francisco with 5 walks and 7 hits in 4 innings.

true, but they are exacerbated right now. his past is irrelevant to the point that NO ONE comes back from TJ surgery in 12 months (less even) with control. And as poor as his command was say in 2007, it wasn't as bad as it has been this year sans 2 starts.
